Oh that is worrisome. Actually with Covid 19, even a single spread can have far reaching consequences. I just hope that things are controlled.

So far so good. Despite the few infections there, the events are going as per plan. That is the best that one can expect in the era of pandemic.

Hidilyn Diaz of the Phillipines has won the women's 55kg weighlifting event, capturing their first ever Olympic gold medal. Well done! Diaz won the silver medal (53kg event) in 2016 at the Rio Games.

Covid-19 Update: At least 153 cases linked to the Games (according to the facilitators).

Oh this is a big news to me !!

They've had a change of mind on the decision. The headline (updated) now reads "Guinea reverses decision to pull out of Tokyo Olympics" so we can expect to hear of Guinea's participation in the Games.

The highlight of the Olympics for most Irish people was Kellie Harrington winning gold in Women's lightweight boxing. Kellie works as a part time cleaner in a Dublin psychiatric hospital and has returned from these Olympics as a national hero.

Greetings on the Gold in Women's Lightweight boxing. How many medals did Ireland win in all?

One of the best Olympics for India
1 Gold - Neeraj Chopra Javelin Throw
Silvers : 2 - 1 in Female Weightlifting : Mirabai Saikom Chanu
1 in Men's Wrestling- Vijay Kumar Dahiya

4 Bronze
Men's Hockey Team
Wrestler Bajrang Punia
Female Boxer Lovina Borgohain
Badminton Player - P.V.Sindhu

Besides
female Golfer Aditi Ashok missed bronze by a few points and finished 4th.
Women's Hockey Team lost in 3rd place playoff to GB by 3-4.

One Discus thrower finished 6th overall.

So except for some disappointments in Archery and Shooting, we have many positives.

Thanks for all of that ptrikha21, well done to India. Great to see India doing so well in wrestling and also to be doing so strongly in women's events.

Plus we won a medal in Track and Field- first in Independent India (and in fact after 1904 or 1908!! - very long time).
If right efforts are put in, we might even get more Track and Field event medals.
There were disappointments in Shooting and Archery so well, Paris 2024 might see more Indian medals if planning and preparations are good enough.

A big yes! Our country just won our first ever gold (yay!), and I'm excited to see how our nation will perform in the next Olympics. I'm really hoping that we get the elusive gold in boxing (our country keeps on getting silvers in boxing).

Greetings on your country winning the Gold medal. I hope that your country wins more medals in the next Paris Olympics 2024.
Of course, if a final in an Olympics event is to be held between your country and India, I would be supporting India for the Gold medal !! :D
