Time to go rapid mode on Online Trainings

Postby ptrikha21 » 04 Mar 2023, 14:33

For a good part of the previous two years - 2021 and 2022, I was into some Online Training(s).
Some of them for a Technical certification in 2021 went well.
Another one for general skill development was incomplete and somehow I must admit that I have not maintained the tempo and consistency.
However, I have got a chance to do more training on certain Technical and other skills.
This time I plan to be more consistent.
Of course, if too heavy office work comes to me, it can alter the situation.

On that platform, there is also a course on Crypto so that could be something that I would be interested as well.

As the year moves by, I will share more on how the things go in this respect.

Training should be an on-the-job thing, something which--after you graduate high-school--you should get paid to do. I would tell all future employers, "Give me a contract, and THEN you can train me!"

"Train" comes from a wordroot that means "to Pull, Draw (see Tract)" (both 'in the locomotive/wedding-dress sense' and 'in the instruction sense)---same as the words Trains, Trained, Training, "Train of Thought," Entrain, Entrained, Retrain, Trainable, Trainee, Trainees, Trainer, Trainers, Untrained

I can remember the only training that I done was that for fire and Safety. I can remember very well that I did it while working with one company five years ago in my country.

So you worked in some Disaster Relief agency or Fire Brigade?

:!:

Companies just give website access to do trainings.
They are investing less in classroom training due to cost factors.
My view is that it could sound nice in the short term but not good for longer term.

I am kind-of devastated myself.

As I want to become a Doctor of Aromatherapy, the only online schooling for such is by Bircham.edu and way too expensive for me.

There are free coureses on https://coursesity.com/ in aromatherapy. If you take the courses, you can be called a Master of Aromatherapy.

Would YOU take the free courses? Would the fact that you would not have the title of "Doctor" bother you?

I would call you Doctor! <3

The title of "Doctor" comes from a wordroot that means "to Take, Accept, be Seemly, be Fitting"---just like "Doctors, Doctored, Doctoring, Doc, Doctoral, Doctorate."

Awe... You are very sweet... Thank you...

Seriously, would the fact that you do not have the status of "doctor" bother you?

I guess that I can simply take the free courses without the status and state on my resume "self-employed aromatherapist".

How would I state the coursesity courses on my resume as the courses are not part of a university?

Is there anyway to include 'signed testimonials' on your resume---testimonials signed by clients (and possibly -by their doctors) whose problems you took away?

Thanks for the link, it sounds interesting.
I wouldn't mind a "title" at some point, it depends on what I need the course for. If it's just to improve my skills or get a job.
If you're self-employed you might need extra such as a portfolio, references, work experience or social media following depending on the niche.

Those courses don't count as proper education but you can definitely add them at the bottom of a CV/resume.

I have a couple of "Dr." around me and they are phDs and not Medical doctors!
At times, people have tried to compare me with them and indirectly telling me as if me not going on the similar path was a total mistake.
Believe me, following one's independent path in India can be tougher than in US as we still have many stereotypes and social dogmas.
Anyways, I have completed a Training and half done with another.
I think for some skills, free training courses are fine.
Yet for others, one can go for suitable paid courses but from reliable sources.

Yes a self employed person needs a lot, especially good references.

What platform have you been using for training @ptrikha21?

Do you mind if I ask what courses you have done there?

Its Udemy. While one of my "myself" paid courses on MongoDb is big and sort of taking time forever,
I am now doing an Introductory training on Tableau.
The others I did were Introduction to Data Analytics and one behavioral training.

Thanks @ptrikha21, I have also done some courses on Udemy, I recently completed an excellent course by Colt Steele on Git and Github and I am currently spending a little time on the same trainer's Web Development Bootcamp. There are lots of good courses there and if you wait to purchase them when they have a sale, they are good value for the learning you get.

I did start on Git last year. A bit of work on command line and making repository, adding files etc.
Later this year, we could be working more on Git I believe.

Re: Time to go rapid mode on Online Trainings

I had a Zoom meeting on Saturday morning with a very nice lady from England.

She would like for me to work with her, but would cost me almost $200.00 to begin.

I flat out asked her if I should learn on my own and work as a self-employed. She stated that I can learn while working for her company.

She answered almost every question that I had about essential oils. I am sold on their benefits.

One can cure almost anything!

I have an essential oil diffuser on my desk. My favorite essential oil is rose.

She wanted me to buy an essential oil kit when I can buy off of eBay for a few bucks.

Would you work for a company or on your own?

That sounds a little bit suspicious. Why would you have to pay to start working for someone? What is that payment for?

No worries. It is an investment in essential oils which are obviously needed to practice aromatherapy. ;)
