I appreciate your concern! Pretty much what happened is that we were asked to leave in a two months notice because the landlord sold the property to build a new building. And under tenancy law, they are obligated to refund us one months worth of rent in which he refused. Not only that, he is refusing to pay back our damage deposit even though nothing is damaged.
He has definitely broke some rules, but the tenancy board advised us to wait until we actually move out until they can do anything about it. I am confident it will work out though, but I guess its just bothersome to think about right now.

That is the problem with rented and leasing house, that's why people wish have own house, I too do not have any own house though we are in business field since 50 years that is our fate that we have sold own house also when our family separated among brothers after death of my father. So when ever we have to change the house we have to take lot of pain to pack and transport them and set them in newly rented house with safe.
That is very sad. My condolences to your family. I too wish to have my own house in the future. Renting has its headaches
