The United States has given its nod for a significant USD 93 million defense deal, strengthening India’s strategic capabilities through the sale of the "FGM-148 Javelin" anti-tank missile systems and the "M982A1 Excalibur" precision-guided artillery rounds.
This acquisition is a clear move by India to enhance its battlefield precision and anti-armor defenses.
The total package includes 100 Javelin missiles, 25 Command Launch Units (CLU), and up to 216 Excalibur projectiles, along with crucial support equipment and technical assistance. The Javelin, a renowned "fire-and-forget" anti-tank weapon, offers infantry an immense edge against armored threats.
Meanwhile, the GPS-guided Excalibur rounds, compatible with India's M777 Ultra-Light Howitzers, are designed to boost artillery's "first strike accuracy," a necessity in modern conflict scenarios.
The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) confirmed the sale will not alter the regional military balance but will improve India's ability to meet current and future threats. It's a pragmatic step that reinforces the growing U.S.-India strategic defense partnership.
