What grows in our garden are juicy papayas but this year we had done because of heavy rain. Papaya trees cannot tolerate heavy rain We had to buy papayas but they were mostly seedless and pretty hollow with little flesh.

We have planted a few as the rain has subsided and waitng patiently for results.

I am very sorry that when it rains heavily, the garden becomes like a flooded desert and papaya trees do not like too much water. The fruits that you buy often do not taste fresh and are like an empty pot. But now that the rain has stopped, when you plant a new plant, you need patience and daily care. As the Chinese say, one drop of water can dig a stone. So if you water it little by little and wait for the results, your garden will recover and the sweet papayas will come again.

It is difficult when one has different types of fruits and flowers in their garden - some like rain and some do not

It's very tricky when you have a garden with different fruits and flowers. Some like rain, some don't. It's hard to balance everything and still maintain the beauty of your garden. That's a real challenge for anyone who loves to garden.

This year I see no bougainvillae as they hate rain. They normally bloom around September

This may sound weird, but I prefer papayas when they are green. When they are green, they are more of a vegetable, but yeah. I like green papayas better. Great for salads, but also great alternative for potato.

I actually love green papaya pickles and I also love using it for salad. I do eat ripe papaya but yeah, I'm a bigger green papaya fan. And if I have stew recipes that needs potatoes, green papaya is a great substitute to potatoes. Much more healthier too.

The papaya pickle that we make has other vegetables like carrot and girkins that go with it. They are all chopped salted and dried in the sun before pickle is made

When it comes to ripe papaya, I use it for shakes and smoothies. It goes well with pineapple and banana.

I have not tried papayas in smoothies. May be when the trees start yielding again I will give it a try

Over here, we call them pawpaw, the leafs also has it's health benefits. Boil them in hot water and it help with malaria or fever, though it can be pretty bitter.
