Do you ever pay it forward?

Postby Jinglebells » 24 Aug 2015, 02:40

Do you ever pay for a person behind you in line for a cup of coffee? We call it pay it forward here. Has anyone every done it for you?

Usually a stranger, will do something nice for someone, and hopefully that person will do the same in return for the next person

It happened once to me at the coffee shop, the man in front of me, said something to the cashier, when it was my turn I was told he paid for whatever I was getting.

I didn't pay it forward the same day, but I did it another day, buying a burger for someone inline at McDonalds.

I personally haven't recieved it, but I have done things for people before. One time a parent who obviously didn't have much money was at a store getting whatever they could with the food stamps and little money they had, their kid was with the parent and the kid really wanted... I think it was an ice cream or something, and I heard the parent say "maybe next time honey, I don't have enough money for it now" and the kid said "but you always say that". That really struck me in the heart, and the parent was obviously really sad too. So kind of secretly I bought the ice cream in front of them, and had the cashier give it to them without myself saying a word to them. I haven't seen them since..

Yes I do. My local community has a PIF group on FB and I often list stuff on there for people to pick up. I will also randomly pay for others behind me in the drive thru.

I'm currently doing it. I am using the some of the $50 I raised from swagbucks to buy a girl who lives next door a new backpack for college, her family is very poor and can't afford one. Before that I gave her a $50 to cover the expenses to treat her guinea pig of some lung disease. Never even knew it was me.

I've heard of this but I'm pretty sure we don't do it over here or if we do it's never happened to me. If anyone from the UK knows different I'd be interested to hear about it. It's a lovely idea and I think more countries should do it. Masterminor you are very generous :D

It's nothing special really. I live to help others. It's what I want to do with myself for the rest of my life, though I do hope to do so in more effective ways than giving money.

Hi Friends,

I have hear and read about this some time back itself. There is no such practice in my place that is in India. When we find a needy people we have to pay for the needy for a cup of coffee. I never faced such situation in my life, but I am watching the same beggars are wondering near hotels for bucks.

well, I have heard about it happening in some places. It doesn't happen the same way here. But I love to help people in need as far as I can. So I set a limit every year as to how much I will be able to spend for charity. Till that limit is reached, I pay for the books of some kid or for the medication of some old person or for the food for the people in an orphanage for a day, etc. All this I do through some institutions who help these people by the funds raised by them. I get a satisfaction out of it when i help some one whom i haven't even seen.
