Pop Use Paper.li to Publish Your Own Newsletter

Postby cmoneyspinner » 27 May 2017, 17:24

Once upon a time, I worked a regular J-O-B. Or to put in my husband's language. I had real job. At my old job, my supervisor wanted to publish a newsletter. Neither she, nor her two subordinates (another lady and me), had any experience working on such a project. So we were allowed to go to a class to learn how. At that time, we did not have Internet access or access to online automated publishing tools. We were going to publish a newsletter the good old fashioned way. Time passed and we never got around to completing that particular task because of other priority assignments that had to be done. (I worked for the federal government.)

Had not given any more thought to publishing a newsletter until I latched on to an online conversation thread where people were talking about easy ways to circulate their content and several people kept mentioning Paper.li.

Well it turns out that Paper.li is a tool that allows you to publish your own newsletter. You could call it a newspaper or a magazine. The point is you can select your own news-worth stories for the content and publish a daily or a weekly newsletter.

I use the free package, because I'm an individual. However, I imagine an organization, company or corporation might pay for the upgrade and get access to a lot more publishing features.

But I know why this tool is so popular and people kept mentioning it. It's super easy to use!

Sign up is free. Follow the prompts to create the title, tagline, etc., choose your content sources (RSS Feeds, Twitter feeds, etc.), click the publish button, and before you know it you will have your newsletter. The publishing process is far easier than what we were going to do at my old job. The tool comes with a sharing feature that automatically shares your newsletter each time you publish to your Facebook timeline or Twitter stream.

What's the value add for using Paper.li?

Well. Do you receive newsletters via eMail?

If you publish multiple blogs, you're active on social media, etc., then you can aggregate your content or activity in the form of a newsletter, readers can subscribe to it, and they can receive it in their eMail. A tool like this could encourage reading your articles or blog posts and increase traffic to your sites. Not to mention there are social media buttons included with each article which makes it easy to re-share again and again and again.

Here's my practical application for using this tool.

I publish a foodie blog and also like to follow food blogs.

I use Bloglovin as a blog reader which I mentioned in another post.

But I also use the Paper.li to generate a newsletter which makes for convenient easy reading.

Sample Newsletter:
The Everyday Exotic Spices Weekly

Any tool or resource that improves your content distribution process is worth a try.

Wow, thanks for sharing, cmoneyspinner...I totally agree, you should have tried to submit it as an article. Not every single article will be rejected. It's a very useful article and well worth exploring. I'm saving this to look into properly at a later stage because I've been considering the idea for a while but didn't know where to start. Very well done :)

Paper.li publishes a blog. This is their latest post and it has great tips.

5 Tools to Bring Your Content Marketing to the Next Level

It mentions one tool that I might be interested in trying. It's TIP No. 3.

“3. Have Content Ideas Discovered & Written Down for You: MyBlogU”

The other 4 tips/tools they mention are pretty good too!

I have never used paper.li however, I know this newspaper publishing tool. You can automate the publishing process by republishing stories from social media.

Take a look at my foodie newspaper. The sidebar shows "About Me" info with links back to some of my other sites and to my social media accounts. The newspaper sections show the Headlines first and then different sections like Photos, Videos, #HealthyEating, etc.

Don't you think people who subscribe to your blog enjoy viewing it in a newspaper format?

I am using both Paper.li and Substack, both newsletter publishing platforms. There is a really cool difference between these platforms. I am using the free plan for both of them but Substack allows me to use affiliate links in my content.

My only hesitation with newsletters is I hate receiving emails but on the other it is not me who will be sent emails, the people who will receive my newsletter.

Honestly, my Paper.li does not have any subscribers so right now I'm just using it to help distribute my content. Each new issue posts directly to my Twitter account.

I am using Substack to publish a newsletter and with this one I get a Notification is somebody unsubscribes.

As for me, I subscribe to a bunch of stuff that I never get the time to read. After a while I may unsubscribe, I may unsubscribe. But I usually quick skim the titles to see if something catches my eye.

Well first ... thanks for the compliment. As for Paper.li, I don't know. But as for Substack, they are really cool. They provide you with statistics and tell you how many clicks. I have to say clicks. It showed the link was clicked on but I can't definitely say the content was read. I also have it set up so that I know when I subscriber has disabled their eMail and no longer want to receive the newsletter.
