Unfortunately for me, sometimes I judge a book by its cover. If the layout is tacky, I get turned off completely hence I never get to find out how useful the information there is. Unless it was recommended by someone.

I generally search for the information that I require and then read the blogs that is provided by the search engine. If i find the read good one....informative and written in a flow with good understandable language, I continue reading it otherwise I leave it in between and switch to other one.
There are certain bloggers and sites whom I follow and visit whenever I get notifications about any blog. I am sure about their quality and enjoy reading them. However, the title definitely decides whether I want to open it and go through or shall keep it for later which sometimes does not happen.

Reading has primarily two purpose: entertainment or gaining knowledge. AS long as I am getting one of these, I will read blogs.

You are right. Catchy contents can also draw a lot of traffic to a site. And it can make viewers glued to it.

If you consider a soccer blog and want to keep visitors visit your site oftener or longer, I think you should lead it to being more visitor participation encouraging.

What I mean is for example, some articles a little bit argumentative like Cristiano Ronaldo VS Lionel Messy , or VS Mohamed Salah etc. For those types of articles will catch the attention of soccer lovers or big fans of soccer players and they will be a lot more encouraged to be engaged with the interaction with your contents and just right you as an author.

If your articles with such argumentative topics are made with good contents and quality core inside, it would, I guess, go viral way easier.

Just a suggestion with that example for how to make a successful blog regarding a sport.

Information is all I seek. If the blog post does not have any information, I will no longer read the blog. Sometimes entertainment factor also rule. If I get some dose of entertainment I continue reading the blog post.

That is why having an attention-grabbing title will help to attract readers. Though content is still what matters most. A combination of the two will certainly make an article popular.
