I know a blogger who sort of fits this description. Actually I would say the blog is "conversational" as opposed to "controversial". The publisher's post always generate a lot of comments. They just seem to pick a wide range of things to post that people are interested in commenting about or discussing. That's the magic formula I would love to have for my blogs.

I did have a blog long back (which I do not want to disclose), wherein I used to write controversial posts mostly concerning with religious terrorism ( no prizes for guessing which religion I am referring to). But I subsequently stopped writing, and it is now inactive since long.

Most blog that do this are blogs which are struggling to survive thus by doing this it helps in keeping the little users occupied. A well functional site has no time for this .

Creating the storm in the te cup is the easy part maintaining the heat and not letting it spill over is the big job. The scene can get crazy when tempers are flying around and as an admin you either sit and watch the chaos you created in the first place or add fuel to the fire to keep the interest up. Either ways I wonder how long you can sustain it that way.

The hope is to settle the controversy. With all the interaction, maybe there's an answer or a solution to what's causing the controversy. It's a HOPE! One can always HOPE!

No, I always try to post research-backed topics. I like to write articles, and I write for Forumcoin. You can find that all of my articles are well-researched. I do not delve into controversial topics.

I don't want since it's an E-Commerce website. I want my blog to focus on the products I am selling.

I don't USE my blog for controversy. But if it's a controversial matter and I am passionate about it and would like my voice to be heard, I might just publish a post. I would be happy if it would generate discussion. But I'm not out there trying to pick a fight! Like you, I use my blog for affiliate marketing purposes and really would like visitors to click on product links and make purchases.

Controversy is a Great marketing tactic. I think anybody who can write and pull of controversy is a genius. There is a lot of that in politics now yuck. I once bought a product that was all about using controversy on your website to get traffic and make money. That's a great topic you got there

I agree with ckoch. Controversy can really bring some visitors to your site. It's a marketing strategy. But some blog already have natural controversy driving more traffic to them.

You can benefit from it but it matters if you want to choose it that way.

Of late, my blog has been attracting spammers. I delete more comments than I accept. I don't like doing that. But whenever I visit a blog I try to leave a comment that adds value. I don't see why commenters who visit my blog can't do the same. The blogosphere has rules. Rule No 1: DON'T SPAM PEOPLE'S BLOGS!!

We used to get a lot of spammers as well until my husband installed a plugin that blocks them. It's a real nuisance and I'm happy that the plugin has cut them down dramatically. It really saves us from having to weed them all out to dig out legitimate ones. Sometimes we play them at their own game and publish some that seem remotely relevant to the blog

Much like you I would rather read a controversial topic than post about one myself. I find that I enjoy commenting on the points of view presented by others.

Definitely I would express controversial views at times more especially if there are logical things that are not given the attention they deserve. It means that someone out there is going to be a victim for no reason so itsbetter you try your best to get it heard out there.

Yeah, controversy is so great. It makes more people visit your website and you know that traffic is great for you.

Same here. It is hard to please everyone so everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I do not deal with close-minded snowflakes or conservatives and trollers. They just waste my time if I will respond to their comments.

In my experience I have found that if I want to broach a controversial topic, the Medium platform is a better place for it. Not my blogs. The Medium readers looks for hot topics.
