Do You Use Your Blog for Controversy?

Postby cmoneyspinner » 30 May 2019, 21:01

Some people intentionally choose controversial topics to discuss via a blog post.

I know this forum has many blog publishers so let's discuss.

Here are a few reasons why I think a person would use their blog for controversy.

Reason (1)
They are very opinionated, don't allow the facts to change their point of view, and must tell the rest of the world how to make things right. It's a must if they're going to save the world!

Reason (2)
They just publish posts on controversial topics because it attracts readers. It's a similar tactic to that used by news media networks. The more sensational or controversial the subject, the more viewers and the higher the ratings and probably the more money their blogs will make. It's just about dollars and cents. Not resolutions or solutions.

Reason (3)
They are genuinely concerned about controversial social issues and hope to achieve a resolution or come up with a solution to the problem. For example, opposing female genital mutilation for religious reasons, and publishing a blog post to invite public discussion for the sake of persuading others that it should be stopped. The main purpose of the controversial post is to get people talking, get to the heart of the matter, and hopefully, find the right answers.

* * *

I seldom blog about controversial topics.

But if I blog about a topic that is controversial or stirs up controversy, my reason is number 3.

Do you pick controversial topics to discuss via your blog? Why?

I don't post controversy topics on any site. Why? There is to much people who will do everything to prove their oppionion. I play myself sometimes with topic title, but nothing close to controversy. If I would do anything controversy, it would be because of reason number 2.

Do you mean does Trump himself go into controversy topics?

Or would writing a post about Trump be a controversial topic?

Yea . I agree with you . I can only post it to see peoples view but cannot indulge in it for a long time because most times it leads to abuse and quarrel

Where possible, we try to steer well clear of controversy although we know that's what attracts the masses. But to do so would be to detract from the very reason we set up our blog - to make my country more visible by celebrating all good things about it, my fellow countrymen and our rich culture and history.

Usually, I like to read other's controversial blogs but I am not interested in creating my own controversial post on any website or forum in the internet.

I get where you're coming from. I would rather read someone else's blog and join in on the discussion. But here is something I've noticed. There will lots of comments but when I try to submit my comments which may be PRO or CON somehow my comments slip through the cracks and don't get published. It makes me wonder if the publisher is selective about how the "flow of the controversy" is going to go. At any rate, it's their blog. I don't make it a point of arguing with other people about what they choose to allow at their blogs.

I do post about some controversial topics - but only if they hit me personally. I don't really care about another persons opinion, if I'm honest. I have mine, they have theirs. I don't specifically target anyone and I post about my opinion on my blog in a nice/mature manner. Somebody possibly having a different opinion than mine is not going to keep me quiet. That's not how we accomplish change in the world - it's through mature discussions.

I avoid any controversial posts on my blog. I hate having to defend myself and fend off people who do not subscribe to my ideas. However, there are a few topics where I express my opinions and do not get into debates. I need to keep my peace and sanity, just getting attention and making some money through it doesn't mean anything to me.

Controversy doesn't sell all the time. I saw a blog that is trying to be edgy by making hate opinions against Baby boomers. This person basically want to massacre all senior citizens. He is not arrested nor getting attention. I found is blog by accident. No one comments on his bigoted blog.

I hope the blogs stays buried and that nobody even finds it by accident like you did. There are lots of topics that generate controversy without promoting hatred and other negativity. I watched the Democratic debate last night on television. The best method for providing healthcare to all citizens was certainly controversial.

I think the controversy is to drag more comment to the topic as people will want their opinion to be accepted by others .
