It's Been 'Retired' for a while, but Microsoft Finally Disabled "Internet Explorer"

Postby friendociate » 16 Feb 2023, 12:04

Just last night on my primary news-source  I found out about Microsoft "disabling" Internet Explorer.

And--letting the "Millennial" side of my "X-ennial"-hood show--I checked that 'news' with The Internet.

Do any of you use a Microsoft (Windows) OS that still runs Internet Explorer? I imagine you can run IE on any Windows-system; you just can't update it ... although I don't know---maybe their 'disabling' it include total deactivation.

Windows-users should probably download Edge anyway (also available on Linux).

"Microsoft" is a portmanteau of the suffix Micro- and the word Software.

"Internet" is short for "Internetwork," built of the word "Network" and a prefix made of ancient words that mean "Between." - Internet Netiquette Netizen

"Explorer" is built on a woodroot that means "to Weep-, Cry Out." - Explorer Explore Explored Exploring Explores Exploration Explorement Exploratory Explorers Unexplored

"Edge" is built on ancient words that mean "Corner, Point, Sword." - Edge "Get the Edge on them" EdgeCity "Razor's Edge" OnEdge "Have my Teeth on Edge" Edges Edged Edging Edger Edgers DoubleEdged Edgeways Edgy StraightEdge

I have not used Internet Explorer for DECADES, so I could not care what they do with it. My browser adds to my income every hour of every day and it will take more than a big name to get me to even think about Explorer again.

No, it doesn't! (I know YOU and 'the associated cryptocurrency-vendor' do that, but I have to keep hold of my grasp of reality.)

The Internet IS NOT "REAL." Well, it's 'real'; but not the same real as the reality we really live in. It's like 'school' compared to 'industry'---the points you earn in school (your grades) are not the points you earn at work (your money). And 'points' are what you earn on the Internet; oh, many people SEE the points you earn and agree to pay you money for them. But The Internet is a virtual gap between YOUR reality & THEIR reality.

"Real" (if not referring to the Small Siver Coin from Spain & Spanish America---a word built on ancient words that mean "Regal") comes from a wordroot that means "Wealth, Goods."

which is also where we get Really Realistic Realist Realism Realistically RealEstate Reality Realize Realization Realness Realpolitik Unreal Realities

Your definition is what is real and what is unreal is very real (now, this word might be confusing the way I have used it). I think virtual reality is also becoming real.

Virtual reality IS real ... if you're virtual! I'm actual, though.

The word "Virtual" (not in the 'involving Virtue' sense  ) comes from a wordroot that means "Capable of Producing a Certain Effect." just like Virtual & Virtually do

And I don't think I defined 'real' - the definition I'm using is "Actually Existing as a Thing or Occurring in Fact (within the same reality you inhabit)."

IE outgo was a foregone conclusion. In our company too, Projects for clients are underway to get support for Edge instead of IE.
Technological changes are however complex.
I still wonder that probably people with not so updated computers could still keep on using IE.
Personally I prefer Brave Browser and Chrome.

I use Chrome too ... in fact, most of my browser's extensions are added through Chromium (the open-source project that builds Chrome and other things, I think).

Have you used Firefox, Brave or Edge Browser(s)?
How was your experience?

I'm on my Edge Browser, and I did use Firefox on my old computer. I seem to recall there were some 'compatibility issues' with that.

The computer I'm using now came with Edge & Chrome pre-loaded, and I haven't really had any reason to download Brave or Firefox; and Bill Maher convinced me I shouldn't use CryptoTab (sure, I can earn 'hundreds of Satoshi on it' (@oldbuddy tells me), but it's ... 'expanding the hole in the ozone layer' :o )

RIP Internet Explorer.
It seems like it's main use in it's final years was basically to download other browsers before ditching it.
