How Biased is Your News-Diet?

Postby friendociate » 28 Feb 2023, 18:40

The Young Turks introduced me to GROUND News, and--getting away from their 'SUBSCRIBE NOW!' begging (for a little bit)--I encountered GROUND's news-bias quiz ... They asked for my "go-to news sources," but they didn't include COMEDY CENTRAL, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE's WEEKEND UPDATE, Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers or C-SPAN among the choices! (and I was concerned because 'the MSNBC-option' was "nothing but NBC's logo!")

Then they asked 'which media-personalities I follow,' and (though they didn't name the ones I follow MOST---the ones I named above, plus a few comedians, and Neil deGrasse Tyson, Rachel Maddow) I picked a few I'd heard-of; and this is how I shared the results of that quiz:

(in case you can't see it, it says "My news diet skews left. 15% of the news I read comes from right-leaning sources. 46% of the news I read comes from left-leaning sources.")

Either one of those links (the first one I gave, or the one they give on the Tweet) will take you to YOUR news-bias quiz. It will ask for an email for them to send your results-to and probably to send you "opportunities to subscribe!" but--if you don't want to share that to get your results to share with us here--maybe you could look at this and kinda 'eyeball it.'

Which way do your news-sources encourage YOU to lean?

I don't have any problem estimating my bias, it is far Right and my opinion will not change at least until Congress does. I know you don't include radio, but I do include the Lars Larson Show on Pacific Northwest Radio as a big part of my makeup.

When it comes to news I'm very biased. I watch the local news and ABC World News with David Muir. If I'm in my car, I listen to NPR radio station. I get news recaps from Seth Meyers or Stephen Colbert. Might watch SNL Weekend Update, if I remember.

Every once in a blue moon, I might find a news report on Youtube. Last night I listened to the speech Donald Trump gave from his home in Florida after he was arraigned.
*** Oh man! God help America. Trump is the greatest American hero who has done nothing but try to protect this country from The Destroyers. He's being sacrificed in order to boost the political careers of others like Alvin Bragg. America is DOOMED!

Afterward, I watched The Ingraham Angle | Fox News, because the whole show happened to be on YouTube. To sum up her position: Everything that's happening to Trump is "ridiculous" and the 34 counts are BOGUS! This case is just a political tool for the Trump haters. But Trump is defiant and will fight back! Everything is going to blow over. Trump will be elected as President and he will carry on his mission to Make America Great AGAIN!!

I'm not biased. I'm realistic. I think the chances are 50/50.
There's a 50% chance Trump will be convicted. There's a 50% chance he won't be convicted.

When it comes to doing the right thing, I have very little faith in American politics, the American justice system, and the American news media. I'm like: Whatever happens, that's what happened. As the world turns. It's all just a soap opera.

It's pretty US centric so doesn't really work for me.

When I used to have DirecTV, there was a news "mosaic". That's what it was called. It had news from all around the world. The Middle East, Russia, etc. It was pretty cool. News reports from other countries were so different from the US news. But I don't get that kind of global exposure anymore.

My news sources are PBS, Al Jazeera and cbs news. I find them more neutral.

I liked Al Jazeera but don't get it anymore. I stopped watching PBS because most of the stuff I had already heard from watching ABC News with David Muir. Every once in a while I watch BBC News.
