Dr. Mike warns us about Detox Teas (they're Tasty, Maybe; but NOT PHARMACEUTICAL)

Postby friendociate » 25 Mar 2023, 12:45

My comment, 'I use this drug our friend Steve Martin told us about ... "I'm not supposed to tell anybody about this; but I'm on it right now, and I'm as HIGH as a KITE! So ask your doctor and see if they can get you on this drug: plah-SEE-bo (PLACEBO)!" LOL

'Oh, I know it's 'not the real medicine' or whatever; but if it encourages your body to do what it needs to do (and you're still getting the right amount of exercise for the diet you're on) and if you're not 'going into debt' to buy the placebos (? placeboi? placobonie???), what's the harm?

'It's like 'words of encouragement'; maybe your friend is an idiot, but who does it hurt if you call them a genius?'

The word "Placebo" comes from The Bible (Psalms 116:9), from a wordroot that means "to Please (which is more often translated 'Walk (with the LORD)')."

I think Dr. Mike's point is that (like I said) it's not real medicine; but 'real medicine' is often just a substitute for 'what your body makes on it's own' ... like dopamine (a chemical that the body makes on its own, which most addictive drugs imitate).

Not all Detox Teas are tasty. Some are bitter and even Tangy.
Yet the difficult part is to distinguish the genuine products from the not so genuine.
On my own, I stick to a few green teas for a few months, then try a new.
So far except for a few, I have not found most green teas or even the detox ones giving much benefits.
The ones with Tulsi, Chamomile, Jasmine and Sweet Rose are good.

Every once in a while, I drink Herbal Slimming Tea. Such tea cleanses your body of toxins. I like to drink the tea before bed.

Such tea is like Super Dieter's Tea found at the GNC... only cheaper.

The tea contains senna.

Good that you found a good herbal formula which is safe. Not all advertised products are so safe and reliable.

What caused me diarrhea was drinking prune juice, not Herbal Slimming Tea. A friend frequently would have a prune with her meals, which got me curious about small bottles sold at Dollar Tree.

I do not drink prune juice anymore! ;)

We should be very conscious of the things we take into our systems to avoid unnecessary complications at the end.

Just because it's used in the Bible doesn't mean that is the origin of the word. It's Latin for "I shall please". It used to be used to mean flattery before it came to be associated with medicine. https://www.merriam-webster.com/wordplay/placebo-word-origin

You get dopamine from anything you enjoy, like food you like, exercise, sex, reading a good book etc.

Yep, herbal teas aren't a substitute for medicine, but people don't usually claim that they are. There's usually no harm in enjoying a calming herbal tea like chamomile or lemonbalm, or one that just tastes nice. Just be careful if you're pregnant or taking prescription medicine because some herbal teas can be harmful to pregnant women (like Pennyroyal) and some herbs can interact badly with prescription medication (St John's Wort is one that can cause issues sometimes).

He doesn't just say they don't work, he presses on the fact they can also be dangerous due to the lack of research and regulations, which is nice.
And as he said, doctors promoting these products is the ultimate issue because they exploit their authority for personal gain. If an "unqualified" friend of mine suggests me a product because she's into some MLM thing, I'll laugh it off... but doctors we should be able to trust... so unfortunate.
Besides, what is proven to work for weight loss (stimulants), which enhances what you're already doing in terms of diet and exercise, is usually illegal*. :(

* unless you have a prescription, ofc.

I am really trying to live a healthy life so that I can avoid having to use detox supplements. I think if we are healthy, our bodies can handle detoxifying by itself.

A good alternative would be water with lemon.

Those detox smoothies sold near gyms are way too overpriced. Also, that Erehon thing is overpriced too. Detoxing isn’t really a real thing; it’s pseudoscience.
