The Scene that Made Me Decide that MAN OF STEEL is the Ultimate Superman-Movie

Postby friendociate » 05 Feb 2023, 18:40

Movieclips shows it here,
It's not 'the great fighting-scene(s) that lead up to it' that convince me, but the epic moment (about one minute in) when Superman (Kal-El) ...
[+] Spoiler
finally kills Zod, & then reacts & is comforted by Lois as if he just had to 'put down' his pet puppy.

That was--I think--unlike any other Superman (especially Superman 2, where he basically throws Zod into a hole.

The name Superman is (of course) the prefix Super- on the word Man. tagging: xSuperman (and I'll probably mention Superwoman & Supermodel etc. in their own entries---possibly hyperlinking from those words at that time)

The suffix Super- (and the word Super) is built on ancient words that mean "Over, Above, Beyond." tagging: xSuper- xSuper xSuperDuper xSuperBowl xSuperGlue xSuperEgi xSuperstructure xSuperhighway xSuperable xSuperabundance xSuperannuate xSuperannuated xSuperannuation

The word Man is (I think) an abbrevation of Human--the suffix -An meaning "Pertaining to," (tagging: xxAn xIan xEan), 'the rest of the word' being built on ancient words that mean "Earth, Ground" (interestingly, the Hebrew for Man comes from the Hebrew for Ground (adam, from adamah)).

tagging xMan xMen xManly xManliness xManOhMan xHumanInterest xHumanRights xHumanBeing xHumanBeings xHumanRelations xHumanResources xHumanComedy xHuman xHumanism xHumanist xHumanitarian xHumanists xHumanely xHumanitarian xHumanity xHumanize xHumankind xHumanly xHumanness xHumanoid xInhuman xSubhuman xSuperhuman xUnhuman xManslaughter xMankind xMyMan (or xHerMan ... xHisMan?) xMansMan (Man's Man) xTheMan xManOrMouse xChessMan xManAboutTown xManOfTheWorld xAsOneMan xManTrap xBeAMan xManItOut xManUp xManned xManning xManYourStations

(Some suspect Man & Men to be built on words that mean "to Think, have Intelligence," but not all linguists accept this. Some even tie it to Mannus, a theorized/imagined Progenitor of the Human Race).

And--since I sorta 'tagged' them above--the word An (the indefinite article before words beginning with vowels, if not the Shakespearean for "If") is built on ancient words that mean One, Single, Lone. The prefix An- is built on either the ancient words that mean Not or Without (A-), or the ancient words that mean To (Ad-).

And the name Ian is a form of the name John. tagging xEoin xIain

And (whether you read all that 'etymologizing' or just skipped down to this end of the post after my brief review/note) which Superman is YOUR ultimate Superman, & Why? (and please don't substitute 'some other real or imaginary hero' (whether from MARVEL, DC, mythology, The Bible, The Quran, your life, history ... I'm just talking about Kal-El/Clark-Kent :ugeek: )

He can always be hired back; I mean, isn't David Tennant (the former DOCTOR WHO) the next DOCTOR WHO? Aren't they bringing William Shatner to STAR TREK?

I am not James Gunn. Maybe you are, I don't know. I asked which Superman is your favorite, and why.

Did he spend any time dealing with the Kal-El/Jor-El Relationship? I'll see if I can find out ... Here's the first 'scene' I found when I looked

The name Kal-El (originally Kal-L) is built on ... well, they suspect the last name is built on the Hebrew name for God (the Spanish for "The" ... also used for God, I think). More searching showed me that the full name means "Voice of God" (or maybe "Son" or "Earthen one"). It's also the name of the son of actor Nicolas Cage

The name Jor-El ... well, the name Jorel means "God will Uplift." Jor-El was originally an unrelated, minor character---an interplanetary investigator in New Adventure Comics #12) named Jor-L.

tagging for special search: xJorEl xJorL xKalEl xKalL
