Just Saw "Central Intelligence" (1996); Great Movie, but It Made Me Realize some Things ...

Postby friendociate » 09 Jan 2023, 11:46

Mainly this: A routine, everyday job (supporting- & supported by-a loving family) is 'The American Dream' (or whatever you call "the ideal by which equality of opportunity is available to any American, allowing the highest aspirations and goals to be achieved").

That said, 'movies about high-school "failures" who "make good" after high-school' (CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE, REVENGE OF THE NERDS (and//or its sequels), etc.) are mostly made by/for people who didn't reach 'The American Dream'---to show us that--tho we could've had good lives--we aren't failures!

(Does that sound like 'greeting-card,' 'don't be a sore loser,' 'look on the bright side,' placation? Maybe it is, but "This Too Shall Pass.")

Thanks for the link. It has the Rock and Kevin Hart. I'm not a Kevin Hart fan so I won't be watching it. I'm happy to consider any other movie with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson if you want to recommend any other films.

good to know, but I guess I also should've 'steered this thread' back to the topic that I was ACTUALLY writing about ... "getting over 'getting old'"---the way life doesn't go like you think it should, sometimes.

Did you "settle down"?

For the most part I think I was successful during school and when I worked. I have been working from home for years now, even though I am supposed to be retired. I have to a daily routine and have to engage in some sort of "work". As long as people make an effort I don't see how anybody can be a failure.

Scripturally though, it says "For a man to work and enjoy the fruit of his labor, this is a gift from God." So I wouldn't describe it as an American dream, but rather a Divine blessing. <3
