Fans are always coming and leaving. As long as they continue to put out content, fans will return. Overall, Netflix's doing very well despite its cancellation rate. Every streaming platform/network needs to cancel shows to survive. Some shows are amazing, but do not have a big fanbase. Some shows are trash, but have a huge fanbase. In the end, if there's no profit, they can't continue the show. It's as simple as that. Amazon has a "lower" cancellation rate because they have less content to cancel. They have cancelled some of their shows even when the show ends with a cliffhanger. Once a show loses its potential to generate revenue, it will be on the chopping block. That's how it is for all platforms.Netherrealmer wrote:A library of incomplete series. Some fans are already leaving to a different platform once their shows got canceled. It will be a slow burn death.

Then Netflix had been cancelling shows left and right, even if the show have a huge fan base they will cancel it. Amazon Prime cancels less shows and they even have patience to make new seasons of shows believing it will catch up. Amazon prime also have great originals that can compete with Netflix.

Yesterday they saved Manifest which has been gaining popularity since it started streaming on Netflix. I haven't seen the show, but I am willing to bet that if the show hadn't been streaming on Netflix, it would not have blown up big enough to get another season. So yeah, Netflix cancels a lot, but once in a while it does help give shows a second chance to continue on.
Yes, originally they passed on saving it because they wanted to focus on their own original series. Plus there was a licensing issue with the international streaming rights or something so Netflix said they wouldn't save it. But the series managed to maintain it's popularity for weeks so they changed their mind. Yesterday on 8/28 at 8:28 am, they announced that they would be renewing it for a 4th final season which would be 20 episodes.spiderdust wrote:Do you have any info on this? My understanding was that Netflix was NOT picking up Manifest after all, but your information may be more recent than mine.

It seems rare for a show to get saved these days as platforms are so focused on making their own shows. Plus when something gets cancelled, it's for a reason (budgeting, viewership, scheduling, etc.) so very few can justify saving a show going downhill. Manifest is a miracle and I hope there's more of these miracles to come.spiderdust wrote:Netflix did, however, save the show Lucifer, which would have ended on FOX at Season 3 on a cliffhanger instead of finishing up with 6 seasons after Netflix picked it up. Then again, Prime also saved the show The Expanse after it was canceled on SyFy and have done an incredible job with it.
