With Twitter you need separate eMail accounts. But with Tumblr I have heard that some people create as much as 200 blogs under one eMail. Why? I don't know.
But for my one YAHOO eMail which I was forced to use when YAHOO acquired Tumblr, I have 13 blogs and now that Tumblr has a new owner, under my gMail I created 16 blogs. Various niches - art, books, movies, health and beauty, fairies and fantasy, travel and vacation, cultural and lifestyle, online shopping, etc.
Another thing is that Tumblr allows affiliate links but they do not encourage you to use your blog mainly for affiliate marketing.
One final thing is that I find the Tumblr Staff very helpful when you report a problem or ask a question.
