Pop How To Succeed in Online Freelancing

Postby freelancermariagrace » 02 Jun 2020, 10:31

In this digital age, more and more people are considering working from home. It is no secret anymore that online freelancing offers an array of benefits such as having control over clients, and the freedom to work anytime, anywhere, and spending more quality time with family, among others. Here are some tips on how to succeed in online freelancing.

1. Have A Dedicated Workspace - Create a dedicated workspace in your home where you can work quietly. Invest in ergonomic office equipment like standing desk and chair. They are not a luxury - they are a necessity. They can improve work productivity and reduce injury. Always keep your workstation clean and don't place inessential items on top of your table so you can work with comfort. There should be adequate space for you to use your laptop or PC and jot down notes.

2. Build Your Portfolio - Showcase your skill and talent by building your portfolio. It is essential to market yourself, specifically, the competition's stiff in the online freelancing industry. You have the option to set up your website or a page using a social media platform like Facebook. Don't forget to include your information such as name, contact number, email address, and the service you offer. Briefly discuss your service and make sure you only incorporate a list of skills you can do.

3. Never Stop Learning - Always find time to upgrade your skillset by enrolling in different online freelancing courses. You can take up a free or paid course. However, if you have some money to spare, you may choose the latter. The choice is all yours. Start with free tutorials on Udemy and YouTube.

4. Use The Best Online Freelancing Tools - A lot of online freelancers today use the best online freelancing tools to become successful in this field. For a VA or Virtual Assistance job, you may take advantage of the online freelancing tools, namely Canva, Google, and Trello. For Content Writing, you may use Google Doc and Grammarly. There is an endless number of applications out there. Pick ones you needed the most.

5. Stay Positive - Stay positive always in all ways. No matter how difficult your job is, don't quit. The challenges along the way can be of help to make you better and stronger. If you feel like giving up, take a break. Go outside and breathe some fresh air. Put aside your gadgets and allow your eyes and mind to rest in the meantime.

6. Find A Hobby - Sitting in front of the computer for a long time can burn you out. Stand up and take a walk outside or find a hobby that you will enjoy. It can be cooking, gardening, or painting. Steer clear of any activity that can stress you out. Without a doubt, you will go back to your online freelancing job with a happy mind and heart after doing a hobby that you love.

7. Get A Mentor - Get a mentor that can give you tips on how to become more successful in online freelancing. Don't burn bridges even you had an unpleasant experience with that person as you never know who you will meet again in the future.

Yes, that's correct. I have done this before and it's an effective way to build your portfolio, indeed.

I don't know if it is considered freelancing writing for some earning writing sites, if so then I guess I work as a freelancer. You have some very good tips here, I have never thought about building my portfolio but that could be a good way to start.

Thanks for sharing these helpful pointers :) I especially agree with the one about never stopping to learn. We're never the "complete article" and as clichéd as it sounds, knowledge is power.
I'm not quite sure how you'd go about getting a mentor online, though

I just wish more people here are willing to learn. We are in an era where free tutorials are everywhere but people are not willing to self learn.

Also try everything, it doesn't matter if you have no experience. You can't say you can't do it until you try.

I can agree with most of what you have written...

Forum Coin has helped me to succeed in online freelancing. Out of all of the forums that I have participated in, this is the forum that showed me a wide range of different ways to successfully work from home.

It really annoys me when people say "they cant" before even trying. The reason why they don't get opportunities is because they reject it themselves.

Fantastic article! <3 And I totally agree that when you're starting out, you should set your price low while building your profile and reviews. Some people are so arrogant they won't listen because they think they are the absolute best  I also like the point about never stopping the learning process.

Sometimes, the customers are hesitant in contacting people who have a low charge. They assume they are not skilled enough and won't bring a desirable result. So, a beginner should know which specific range is the best price.

Sometimes, I charge a higher rate first but when the customer declined, I tried to lower it until we reach a specific amount that she/he can afford to pay.

I already have a raise on my price because an online magazine publishes my articles now. I have to use a white sounding pen name to be accepted though.

I just realized that I am on a mailing list for Freelancer.com. I signed up years ago and forgot about it. But I recently got an eMail with a freelance job opportunity. So another tip I guess is that you should get on a mailing list for freelance opportunities.

I forgot to mention, after you got paid, give the client a positive review because that might encourage them to hire you again.

That's so true. At the site where I advertise my freelance services, there are two choices: (1) the buyer can rate the seller, and (2) the seller can rate the buyer. I have customers or clients that I just had to give positive reviews. They were so easy to work with and they bought my service more than once.
