Pop How technology saved the entertainment industry in 2020, a year end retrosperspective

Postby Netherrealmer » 06 Dec 2020, 18:52

Many people say entertainment is not important that it's just a want and not a need. I disagree because entertainment help me keep my sanity during this pandemic. Entertainment also had been a great way to spread message and awareness to people. It is more than a distraction. If we had been too serious with our lives we would have been driven to insanity and depression. During the early stages of the pandemic we endured live television filmed at either empty studios or empty stadium.

This wrestling promo would have been epic in front of a live audience. Becky Lynch is suppose to have a scripted showdown with Asuka who one number one contender. That scripted promo got cancelled because she is announced to be pregnant. So she decided to surprize Asuka who is supposed to be her next match that she will relinquish her championship and Asuka is now the champion.Asuka getting surprised because its not on the script and she want out of charter because she is suppose to play the villain. With an Audience this would have been epic but its an empty gym. A female wrestler temporarily giving up her career for because she is pregnant and decides to keep the baby would have been great with a crowd.

Digital Audiences got invented out of necessity to save tv live televisions. Talk shows on skype is just not entertaining. Empty studios and stadiums for sport events is just uncomfortable to watch. L.e.d screens with faces of people at home with webcam rescued live events. Epic moments finally have crowd reactions again. It is not a good as a real live crowd but its better than nothing.

Something every actors and celebrities wanted to do is fund raising because it makes them feel that what they do is not shallow. That entertaining people can be used for a good cause. This year charity events are impossible because of social distancing. The

The cast of the Goonies decided to make a reunion via zoom and Youtube. 35 years since they made the movie they met again virtually to raise funds for charity. They raised US$32K worth of donations without leaving their homes.

Many people worked at home during the Pandemic and even News Anchors are forced to do so. Working at home as a News reporter on live Tv though results in many hilarious moments. These accidental moments in a way helped the mental help of people because we needed a laugh. Unscripted moments like this is delightful.

These pets are happy their humans are at home so they decided to disturb their live tv report.

These toddlers are happy their mom is at home so they decided to join her tv report on live tv without her permission.

Christopher Reeves, the most beloved Superman actor have a son and his son pursued journalism instead of acting. Many people who works at home wants to be comfortable so they don't wear pants. Will Reeve didn't notice his camera is way too low.

Zoom scripted movies and tv shows became trend in the world as well. Father of the Bride was a 2 part family comedy from the 90s that became part of the childhood of many 90s kids. The actors decided to have a reunion and made a 3rd sequel via zoom. They did the acting in a chat app because quarantine made the actors stuck at home.

This is only a 25 minute movie because they still want to make a real sequel where they film person. Many tv shows and movies also did this format.

I don't watch beauty pageants but I am fascinated with what happened to Miss Earth 2020. Beauty Pageants are impossible during a Pandemic because you cannot fly hundreds of contestant from around the world in one location during a pandemic. Miss World cancels this year and Miss Universe 2020 will happen in 2021.

Miss Earth decided to do the pageant virtually. They tasked contestants to record videos of their Evening gown walk, Swimsuit walk, talent and they their answer to the questions for Q and A got texted to them. Miss USA wins but she didn't get a crown because duh social distancing. She just received a message she won and it was streamed live. They used technologies like email, file uploading, video chat and green screen to make this work.

In the spectrum of entertainment movies suffered the most. Now Film studios are selling their films to Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+ and Warner digital so people can now just stream the movies at home. Cinematic films for sure a better with theaters but something is better than nothing.

Technology saved many events from getting canceled. It also saved people from watching empty arenas which was painful in the first few months of the pandemic. It also helped people to push their creativity beyond the limits of what they have available.

The entertainment world is always evolving. The audience want to be entertained. The entertainers want to keep making money. Where there's a will, there's a way.

It is true, entertaining industry and technology helped us a lot during the lockdown. Entertainment helped us to keep our mind distracted and happier while technology was a blessing to speak with those we love but couldn't be with. It also allowed many people to work from home and maintain their jobs.

Sometimes I wonder if the virtual audience are cheering for real. Some of them are watching way too quiet. I have a feeling the cheers and boos are piped in because when people watch at screen, they are less reacting.

What I like is that when I laugh, it's not drowned out by the crowd laughing and I don't worry about infecting anybody. It's strange but thanks to COVID-19, you don't want to be in a crowded public place where people are opening their mouths and laughing out loud. 2020 has been such a weird year.

I feel bad for the owners of movie theaters because most box office will be released digitally next year. Only a vaccine will save theater industry.

Technology did come to the aid not only for Entertainment and Sports but Information Technology and other fields as well.
We in IT could do Work from home due to better network technologies and abundance of Data plans.
In IPL cricket, we had digitally created sounds of audience applauding and roaring even though it was played in empty stadiums.

I don't feel too too bad because after all it's a building. It's a piece of prime commercial real estate and I'm sure they can convert their investment into some "other use".

..some "other use".

Well, one can think of other uses but often people could be reluctant to make Fresh Business investments in these times, even with low Financing rates.
Plus not every Movie Theater owner can think in an innovative manner.

Speaking of "other use" ... I saw a report on television and the restaurant owner/chef created another line of business. Since people can't go out to restaurants in Germany, he comes to the home and cooks a meal. One lady ordered a "birthday dinner" for her husband. The chefs show up, they bring their cooking utensils and everything, they prepare and serve the meal. They are getting orders for "personal chef" services.

If you want to survive your have to get creative.

The vaccine is out and still, there are no changes. I also would have loved to watch Miss World. I don't know how they did it this year, or intend to do it. I also hadn't noticed that people could zoom in and watch wrestling matches. I have gained so much knowledge today, some that I had taken for granted.

My friend has been doing this over Christmas and every day I see him in a different location making food for his customers on their budget. I feel this is such a good idea, I may implement it but I am not so sure if I will cook again.
The chef can still get the pandemic from the houses that he is visiting but this is so noble of him.

@sweerie_banana I believe Miss World is canceled while Miss Universe will be held in 2021. They can follow what Miss Earth did and do it virtually.

technology stopped the entertainment industry that was being nibbled by corona; The movie studios managed to do their business, however, the theatre owners were completely left out of this fair share.

I like WWE's digital crowd over empty arena of sports.
But about Superman's son, he might be wearing underwear, even if no pant.

Other sports already follow the same formula since Covid is not ending anytime soon especially with a new strain around.

Thank God we are in 2021 already. I am not happy. This pandemic should end already. So the miss world is still reigning since she hasn't crowned another beauty pageant?

Technology has really helped the entertainment industry, imagine a world without Technology in 2020 amidst this pandemic , the entertainment industry would have suffered greatly and lost a lot but with the help of Technology the industry stood.

Yeah, the digital crowd livens up the arena. I never knew Christopher's son will be appearing on stage with no pants. The clip is already viral. Seems he did it intentinally.

It is not intentional. He thought the camera is only on his shoulder view. he didnt know its half his torse. Many news anchors are not wearing pants. They wear shorts because its not comfy.
