Construct 3 - tool for making apps and games

Postby mrki444 » 13 Dec 2020, 15:05

I crossower on this online and offline tool called Construct 3. Looks very simple for making mobile apps and even HTML5 games. You don't need write code just add blocks with orders. But you need to think logical and make simple algorithm and have idea. Easy to add background or characthers.

Many people recomend it for simple games and earn money from it. It can help learn basic stuff and maybe become rich since people like simple games.

I am already using it. The issue is the tool is browser based and does not have windows installer. which makes me not want to use it considering my export options get limited if the size of game asset is too big. So good for web based game development, bad for android and console game export.

It don't need installer if it can work in offline. I don't see problem in browser enviroment.

I just read in free version you can't monetize apps.

What did you make with that tool so far?

Mostly browser based games. And if you think you can handle big game assets on browser lol. You're kidding me right. Games get bigger because of the asset size. for example the one asset I am loading in the unity for the platform game is appx 100mb in size which gets compressed only during the export. browser based editors crash importing such huge assets.

No.

All versions are through browser. And load stays on browser. So there is always going to be crash chance. Considering product is not competition with Unity like big boys. It will stay on browser for small game developers not big asset requiring game studios.

Yes, that's their prime USP. They encourage people to do that. As for android and executable, that would be tricky but that is also supported.

I think I read somewhere you need from Construct export it into Cordova (I guess) and then you can into mobile app. But there can be errors during compile so still you need check it with Android Studio or similar tool.

Yes and they are also going to host the cordova service online so you can do that from the browser itself. Not sure how that change would go. As of now all the apps that I have used for game dev basically ask for importing project from android studio and then export the game to apk.

Those are mostly low asset games as you can see from their gameplay. Big asset games you can check out on unity and gamemaker studio. it's fun how powerful those engines are.

But I think Construct 3 is tool for such stuff. It was not build for big games. For bigger and better there are tools like Unity as you mention it.

It is indeed suitable for small games and the web based games. Apart from that more better graphics and in depth games are bettter done with godot or unity.

Extremely difficult to make money off games. The reason being say if it is paid app, you need numbers for the download to make serious money. And if it is ad dependent then you have to think of decent game that can be played and downloaded.
