Why are so many men violent towards women?
Is western society becoming more violent towards women, and if so, why?

Violence against women and girls is a problem of pandemic proportions. At least one out of every three women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime with the abuser usually someone known to her.

Honestly, no. 'Western Society' is not becoming more violent towards women as time goes on .We have become less violent towards women as nowadays we have places for women to go, to seek help, there are support groups and phone lines for example, that were not prominent in the past. In schools kids are taught about abuse, domestic and the like and what they should do if they ever find themselves in that situation. I am in no way trying to discredit the problems women face, nor am I trying to argue that this is enough, however going along with your question I am just stating my belief that as time goes on society is not becoming more violent to women.

As a side note I am curious as to why you chose to single out western society in your question. There are more rights for Women in western society then there are in some places in the Middle East and Africa.

Violence against women is on the decline. I think the world is on the right track when it comes to dealing with gender based violence. The woman of these days is wise and educated.

Men who beat women are perfect cowards. They deserved someone hit them more or worse than they do to women.

One man's violence against one woman may seem to result from his individual psychological problems, sexual frustration, and unbearable life pressures. It will not have gone unnoticed that men are more violent than women.
