Total amount earned at Forum Coin

Postby bestwriter » 14 Jan 2019, 04:01

Is there a place where we can see our total earnings? We have this feature at myLot. They have a detailed account of all what we have earned there.

Thanks for your question bestwriter. Sorry but that is not something we have at the moment. The closest we have is the lists of payments in this topic. You could search for your name in those lists, to see the payments made to you. Most payments are there, but there have been times when some payments were not added.

Mylot is a custom site made on dot net but forumcoin is running on the readymade script with few manual customizations.

Unfortunately it is not something we can really add (atleast accurately) as the extension we use as the basis for the earning functionality doesn’t have that feature by default and now so much time has passed, it would be almost impossible to get it accurate. Maybe we could add something in the future and accurately count from that date but really this is only cosmetic. Users will typically have an idea of how much they have earned/withdrawn and other than going “ooooh that’s interesting”, it will not really change how people use the site.

Both in their own way. A custom built script can be easily made to do everything you want and be quite unique in functionality and appearance but is expensive/time consuming and as it is closed source, can mean that bugs/security issues take longer to be found.

Sites like us that is built on a freely available software means that a lot of the code has had thousands of people’s eyes go over it, many people to find and fix issues but means that we are limited and in difficult place when it comes to getting the functionality we want but also keep relatively compatible with future software updates allowing us to get free updates.

Ultimately both have their advantages and disadvantages. It is just each site owner weighing up what is best for them and end users deciding for themselves what they prefer. Many users though don’t give a second thought to the behind the scene stuff such as the software, version of software and how certain features work.

This is actually a more important question than just an
“ooooh that’s interesting”
moment.

Depending on the total amount paid out in a single year, some countries require a report or form declaring the total amount earned for tax purposes once the payment in any calendar year exceeds those reporting requirements. It is probably not the same amount for any two countries. Earnings from this source is most likely substantially lower than anything that may require reporting documents.

Even without any reporting documentation, at the very least, a report showing an annual total paid in each calendar year is not just a convenience, but is essential for those who are required to report earnings for income tax purposes.

In a way yes but users will need to still monitor what they withdraw etc in many cases. Reason being as unless we have a yearly total that resets every tax year, users will need to monitor how much they have earned in each tax period. Additionally if we record how much each user "earns", it could mean two things. Either how many FC the user has earned (had added to their balance here) or how many they have "withdrawn" and earned real money for. Either are both inaccurate as users can receive FC from exchanges, lose FC for warnings or pay users for exchanges, to do tasks for them or to buy advertising here/account upgrades. Overall there are too many variables that users need to monitor themselves what they do if they need to report their earnings for tax purposes. That figure will typically be inaccurate for most users... certainly users using the site to the maximum.

I can certainly monitor by going through emails received but that needs to be done each time a payment is received. Since I have not done that I was wondering if that was available here. I perfectly understand if that cannot be provided here but nothing like getting happy surpirses at a later date may be?

You could calculate what you've earned at ForumCoin by adding all sent FC$ (in your FC logs) to your current balance. My log has around 300 pages though.. so that's a job for automation ;).

Other than any expenditure in ads or barter exchanges, some members may want or need to know how much they have actually withdrawn in cash payments. It almost has to be up to the individual members to keep track of their own trades that were beyond cash withdrawals.

Just to provide this part of the equation, I went through Fergal's list of $5 payments.
viewtopic.php?f=26&t=65

I copied the list, then alphabetized it, then went through and counted payments times $5 to come up with this list for 2018 payments.

According to Fergal's records, he paid out a total of $1895.00 in 2018 to the following members in these amounts:

Yes. I ignored payments for previous years. This is just the amount for 2018, in case someone might actually need to report it for income tax purposes.

Fergal did mention that he might have missed posting some payments, and this does not include any amount spent in any other way. It should be considered as an "at least paid" amount for 2018.
