Amazon positioned itself so that a) you have to use their service in order to make money in the marketplace, but b) if you start making a lot of money, it's incredibly easy for them to steal your idea and sell it for way less than it costs you (driving you out of business, at which point they can raise the price back to 'profitable')
Amazon is allowed to 'swaggerjack' (Hasan's word) companies like that because Amazon upholds one cardinal rule---the Consumer Welfare Standard ... basically they keep service-standards high and prices low.
In short, Amazon's retail business are all a front!---like Los Pollos Hermanos was a great-great restaurant, but was only a front for an even more-profitable business (in Breaking Bad); Amazon's great-great stores are only a front for Amazon Web Services (The Internet's largest landlord, providing security & infrastructure for huge companies and government organizations---about 10-million websites).
