whether you have a blog, forum, or a ecommerce website, you need to be very active on your site. If you are not active, hackers and spammers will become active and attack your site on on fronts.

An admin is leader in a forum just like any other leader. Therefore, he/she should lead as an example by being active.

I believe they should be the most active given that everyone is depending on you, your the one who is running the show and if your not active then whatever your running will surely flop because there is no leadership.

If you own a website, any kind of website, you should be active on your site. If you do not care about your site who will.

Of course, they are one of those who truly knows the mechanics of the site. We would run to them if we get confuse or any question, anouncement regarding to the site.

Admin has more important roles like marketing the site and promoting it. However, they have to be in regular touch with the users here, to control spams, responds to reports and to see that no violation of rules and guidelines happen. Having an approachable admin also builds confidence in the member users. So though he need not be most active one, he has to regular to check out happenings at the site and respond to his member users.

Admins need to be active so as to show a good experience to other members. Sites which have dormant admins tend to die easily as compared to those with active admins. I remember many years back, I was a webanswers user. Many things happened to an extent that the site died. The reason was simple, admins were reluctant to implement what was best for the site since they didn't want to know. Thus it is important for them to be active.

I think so. The admin must check his site from time to time to know what's hot and what's not.

Yes. I don't like being on sites where the admin is not active. If the admin doesn't have time for his/her site then they should hire someone who has the time to take care of the site.
