For months (maybe even years), I heard about people using Instagram and how great it was. Isn't every social media tool awesome? Part of you wishes you could ignore all the talk or hype. But the other part of you nags at you and keeps asking 'Suppose you're missing out on something valuable? It could be a really good tool!'
That question begs an answer if you are person who has chosen to try to work from home and earn income from your online work.
One thing I have come to realize about online work (mainly blogging, writing and affiliate marketing) is that you need an SMM tool kit; a social media marketing tool kit.
* Of course, what's the point of having these marvelous tools, if you don't know how to use them?
A friend sent me an Invite and I created my IG account, November 2017.
Finally!! My Instagram account is set up. What next??
Not totally clueless about how to use it. Just not quite sure which direction to take in order to move forward with it.
Before writing this article I did the usual research to see what advice has already been provided by FC members. Lots of good information and guidance has been presented. The posts date back to 2015 and the most recent articles are dated 2017. Here are the posts with my additional comments or questions.

Quote from the first article: “Instagram these days is turning out to be a good influencer platform.”
Quote from the second article: “Instagram marketing is rising every single day.”
Both statements predict the path the Instagram platform is taking and active users are establishing their presence because they have bought into this gameplan. Even though both articles by @skysnap are too advanced for me at present, I am marking them for future reference. I know that as my understanding about how this tool can be used more efficiently and effectively increases, both of these posts will be excellent reference material that will help me develop and implement a successful marketing strategy for my online work projects.
The link provided in this post leads to additional information that complements the articles above. I am experimenting with affiliate marketing advertising on Instagram. But according to the Instagram owners, in their “Help” Section, they have plans for making advertising on the platform easier. For this reason, my current efforts pertaining to using ads has been very limited. I'm waiting to see what they come up with it!
That is my intention. I hope Instagram can be used to drive customers and subscribers to my affiliate marketing websites and my monetized blogs and articles. But my current efforts are aimed at gaining followers. My account is about 3 months old and I have approximately 200 followers. Not exactly rock star status. Workin' on it!
Sponsored content is not uncommon for many social media platforms. Site owners want to allow users to create free accounts but there has to be a way for them to keep the platform up and running. It's their revenue stream and a method to finance their operations. If they don't use sponsored content, the alternative is you, the user, being charged a fee to create an account.
Yes there is. It's called “Desktop for Instagram”. It's a free Google Chrome extension. Works great!!
CONCLUSION:
“This statistic gives information on the number of monthly active Instagram users as of September 2017. As of that month, the mainly mobile photo sharing network had reached 800 million monthly active users, up from 600 million in December 2016. The app is one of the most popular social networks worldwide.”
I don't have a mobile device. But I followed the advice of the experts and did my best to make my websites and blogs mobile-friendly because it seems everybody else in the world accesses the Internet by way of a mobile device.
Instagram is extremely popular among mobile users. My hope is that my Instagram account will give me a means of sharing my home biz work with this massive audience, with the ultimate goal of increasing earnings from my online work.
P.S. I understand the appeal of Instagram. It's easy and fun to use and the visual display of the images is very pretty!

Thanks for sharing this guide in using Instagram. I am not on Instagram because the social media tools that I am already using are sufficient. In fact they are too much and I am hardly active there. I find them to be more time killing than their benefits. I have heard a lot from friends about Instagram and have so far not got tempted to have an account there.

UPDATE Sep 18, 2018 I was contacted via eMail by a company that found one of my Instagram posts and wants to feature it at their website. I use my IG as part personal/part home business and mainly share affiliate links. I am not sure if this is going to work but I am hoping it will help my IG account get more exposure and grow.
I'll report back on the results.

I have started using Instagram to promote our videos. But we are still not able to figure out a way to utilize our photographs well enough. One problem we have is how to have different captions for different pictures which are uploaded together.

Sometimes I notice Instagram has glitches. It will upload the photo but the text description won't post. It is not consistent. Most of the time the description will post. But every once in a while it does not. I have no idea why.

I have neglected my Instagram account and the year 2020 will be coming to an end shortly.
I have devoted more time to embracing paid freelance writing opportunities instead. However, there's a new year to look forward to and I am going to devote at least a few hours per week to my IG account. This guy's tips are pretty good.
Well it is the Year 2021 and for the past week or so I have been having "issues" with Instagram. To the point that I have decided not to devote much effort to my IG accounts and work on other more productive and profitable endeavors.
When it comes to plans, you need to know when to scrap 'em.

What do you think of the filter abuse many influencers had been doing with their instagram accounts like the grannies who pretends to be teens with their thick layer of age defying filters.

I think “abuse” is the correct description for it. Maybe I just don't get it but I really don't see the point of pretending to be a teen. I guess they make money from it. But I can make money being my own age too! So I don't get it!
Instagram blocked me from one of my accounts. It was the one connected to my Facebook profile. But I do have another account which was specifically created to share products for “instashoppers”. For some reason they did not bother that account. I had not been using it actively. But I decided I'll got back to using it again. People do like to shop via Instagram. I figure why not post some products and see if I can earn commissions. What I like about Instagram posts is that you can easily re-share them via Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter and Pinterest. If I don't get buyers via Instagram,I might get them via the other social media networks.

I think your impression is correct. Celebs on IG have a ridiculous amount of followers. I started following Kim Kardashian once but I unfollowed her. I got tired of her butt always being my face, I'm not knocking the girl. She's got a great body. But I'm not a guy. It's only so much bootie I can take.

So are you not devoting much time on IG because it is not giving much returns or due to some other issues? I too use Twitter a lot but not as active on IG.

Once or twice a week I will post to Instagram, like a few posts, and follow some accounts. Not putting a lot of effort into it. Whereas with Twitter, I am much more active because more tweeters interact with me and I seem to be earning commissions from the Amazon links I share.

Since when? Because I have had a Facebook FOR YEARS. But a person had to send me an INVITE in order for me to create my 1st Instagram account. Then something FUNKY happened (I don't know what ) and now I don't have access to my Instagram which should be linked to my Facebook account. And there is no point asking for HELP because when it comes to getting support or assistance, Facebook and Google are the worse!!

I did also follow a lot of celebrities in the beginning, then I got tired of watching their bodies. These days I like to follow common people and listen to their common stories.

I just tried to reconnect my Instagram account with my Facebook and could not do it. Now I'm really annoyed! I'm annoyed that they have no Support Staff to help me. Anyway! I have another Instagram I'm using. I'm still annoyed though.
