What stops you sharing online?

Postby Sam » 21 Apr 2018, 08:07

I personally believe online privacy is important (especially for under 18s) but what things do you not share online and why?

I tend to share where I'm from and what I'm doing but not super specific things.

I have stopped sharing details of my granddaughter because I saw a programme on TV which showed how easy it is to glean information. A woman had put up a picture of her child holding a football achievement certificate. From the information on that piece of paper hackers could tell which football club he belonged to, his school and his name and address.

A lot of her friends already have facebook accounts at the age of 11 or younger but I won't let her have one yet.

I agree with you :)

I use facebook and Instagram but I don't share much of my personal life and also my opinions... In Forum Coin I share something of my personal life and my opinions about many subjects but, like you, I don't share super specific things...

Technology and internet are awesome and bring us so many cool things and persons. But privacy is very importante and a right we must preserv... at least in some things, I think!

I also try not to share anything too specific like telephone numbers, my address, pictures of young family members etc. It's a very scary world we now live in. Even when we go away, I try not to put it out there because these days these opportunistic thieves are known to burgle people off the back of something they've seen on Facebook!

So far nothing has stopped me from sharing online. I view my online activity the same way I view my offline activity. I don't put my biz-ness on da streetz! I consider that not only must I protect my privacy but the privacy of those associated with me - mainly my spouse and kids.

What really has me pissed off is that there is information out there on me and my entire family at sites that I didn't give that information to. I really would like to know how to get it removed. If it were just me I probably wouldn't be so upset. But it's got the names of my spouse and my kids. WHO TOLD THEM ALL OF THAT? If they're going to give it out why can't we get paid for that public disclosure. We're not the Trump family. We're not public figures. Why people need to know all that about us? :?:

I have been careful with what I share online, especially about my kids and when I am on vacations or traveling. What we share online can be usused against us and we never know to whom we are speaking or what is the intention of those who read our facebook posts. Sharing that we aren't at home for long periods of time or where our kids are is dangerous.

I would not share my phone, email and residential address openly (I provide them to trusted sites though). I would also avoid the name of the financial institutes I deal with and last but not the least my ID, and other crucial details related to my bank would remain my top secrets.

I always avoid giving out too much information online about my family ,most of all. We come across so many scary stories about what the hackers can do with the information they gather online.

Better not tell your personal email address and the home address. It can be use with bad intention so better be careful where you will share or give the information online.

I don't share my private life online including specific information about me. Safety is very important seconded by privacy. I'm not afraid if the whole world can see and know me. What I afraid about is someone might stole my identity and use it wrongly.

My private life and my family life is very close to me and I do not want to share about it online. I am on Facebook but I use it only as a platform for promoting my articles, Staying in touch with friends and family and to be part of certain groups that benefit me professionally. I am not comfortable sharing personal pictures and plans on Facebook and any social media. I do not feel safe to share my personal and financial details to any not trusted sites.
