Esports (electronic sports) is a term for organized video game competitions. It is one of the fastest growing industries today. The best players have earned over million dollars by playing games. The most popular esports games today are Starcraft II, Counter-Strike: GO, DOTA2 and League of Legends. Watching the top level plays can be pretty exciting so naturally the games attract spectators that fill the stadium as welll as watch it online.

Are there any esports fans on this forum? What games do you play/follow?
I play and follow Quake Live and I watch Starcraft II games regularly even tho I don't play the game.

Yeah I agree, personally. :p So I've never really followed any esports.

Do they do esports of actual sports games? Like FIFA.

I personally think it's retarded to consider a sport or a driving sumulation an esport since imitation will always be inferior to the real thing. It would be silly to watch a virtual sporting match but there are some niche esport communities for a lot of multiplayer games including FIFA.

And I think playing games and watching matches go hand in hand since if you are into the game and you want to improve, the easiest way to do it is by watching the best in the world play.

I don't think sports/simulators should be considered eSports either

But playing Dota/LoL or Counter Strike and Starcraft requires lots of skill...

The biggest esports tournament in history is just a few months away. I'm talking about 2015 DOTA 2 International. The prize is over 7 million dollars and it's still increasing every day. It's going to exceed the last year's prizepool which was close to 11 million.

I think it is a newly introduced game. I never heard of esports. or may be my children are grown up so not interested in video games and that is the reason i did not know about such games. But it sounds interesting and tempting me to watch that game being played

Esports has been around for the past 20 years or so. It started really developing with Quake and Brood War.

They are building dedicated esports stadium in Seul, South Korea. The stadium can accommodate more than 1000 people including 800 seats in a main stadium and 200 seats in a supplementary stadium. Compared to existing stadium owned by private organization accommodating 200~300 people, it can accommodate more than three times or four times of that.
