The End of an Era - Mosquitoes in Iceland !

Postby ptrikha21 » 23 Oct 2025, 15:41

For ages, Iceland and Antarctica stood as the planet's lone insect sanctuaries from the buzzing menace. The island's tricky, erratic freeze-thaw cycles historically smashed any chance mosquito larvae had of completing their life cycle. Now, this Culiseta annulata has breached the defenses. While entomologist Matthías Alfreðsson suggests this specific species is already adapted to colder climates and might have arrived via freight, the buzz in scientific circles links this to the broader trend of climate change making previously hostile habitats more viable.
It seems even the toughest fortresses are getting a little warmer and, well, itchier. Antarctica, you’re on notice!

This is why climate change deniers really annoy me, because these obvious changes are starting to happen but they're still denying that it doesn't exist. For example, many people thought that lionfishes become widespread in America and starting to be widespread in Europe because someone freed their pet, but actually that's not the reason. The reason is the oceans are becoming warmer, that tropical fishes are able to reach Europe and North America.

This is a warning that climate change is no longer a myth, but a reality. We need to take action before things get worse. Even mosquitoes are showing us that the world is changing rapidly 😅.

Also, we have very dry areas that used to receive negligible rains for ages.
Now, they get more rains and even flood.
Also, some areas which used to get more rains and rarely had a dry season are having drier weather spells in between.

On a lighter note, India and other nations can now sell anti mosquito repellents and medicines to such countries !!

It’s true that some people see climate change as something far-fetched or imaginary until they experience its effects firsthand. Floods, droughts, wildfires. These are no longer myths but realities happening around the world. But rather than blaming or belittling them, we should continue to educate with compassion and real evidence.

Many people change when they see the effects with their own eyes, but others need time and space to understand. If we lead by example, show solutions, and speak in the language of hope, we can win them over. We don’t need everyone to believe right away—we need to continue to push forward understanding and action.

Indeed, a significant shift in Iceland's ecosystem. The implications of climate change are becoming impossible to ignore.

Yes. Small and bigger weather changes across the world; in many countries is showing the after effects of Global Climate change.

Even so, they won't believe it; the brainwashing they've undergone has left them at a level of stupidity from which it's very difficult to escape.

If you think that is disturbing, well, recently scientists found out that grizzly bear and polar bears are now mating. And so they end up having babies that are infertile, that is half grizzly bear and half polar bear. And this could lead to extinction of both bears because they're not supposed to mate. Because if they mate, their children will be infertile. And why did they end up encountering each other? Because the ice caps are melting, so grizzly bears are able to reach where the polar bears live.

If this happens with other species, then well, it could be the time when the end of life on earth nears, except for the life of Robotic machines and devices.
Disturbing indeed !

Polar Bears and Grizzly bears should never meet because if they mated, they will end up having babies incapable to reproduce. Back to the topic, hope Iceland can erradictaed the mosquitos

Climate change is real and this is part of it's proof, I don't think most people would be able to deny this.

Trump supporters are kinda denying climate change because they want to drill more oil and release more air pollution.

Whereas we have been living with mosquitoes here almost like we are intentionally breeding them. How would the people of Iceland now cope?

Not sure if the number of such mosquitoes would multiply manifold in Iceland, but I suppose we could see anti mosquito creams, lotions, sprays etc. being sold in Iceland.

Another sign that climate change is real is Jamaica just got attacked by an intensity 5 hurricane, and then the country Philippines, starting tomorrow, is about to be attacked by a storm larger than the whole country's map.

Coastal areas are not safe anywhere. Gradually, they could even see less tourists.
What will happen of nations like Maldives, which are entirely dependent on tourists is difficult to say.
