Post retirement

Postby bestwriter » 19 Oct 2025, 02:20

Most parents empty their coffers giving the best for their childeren and forget to think of their future post retirement.

They hope their children will take care of their needs and this sadly does not happen in many cases forcing the elderly to shift to old age homes.

Post retirement time can be the best time if one is independent being able to take care of their needs.

I composed the following poem when my husband was about to retire

Retirement Bliss Not Blues

When retirement age draws near,
There lurks an unknown fear,
Of being a nobody…….
Once a somebody!!
How Faulty this thinking is,
When life gets a fresh lease,
To do what one really wants,
With none to boss with shouts and taunts.
Doing things at a tarried pace,
No more to rush or race,
Stopping by to smell the flowers,
Sitting by the sea for hours.
Relaxing in ones favourite chair,
With no tension, not a care,
Doing what one wants to do,
With hobbies revived and interests too.
Plenty of time to cheer the weary,
Share it with the said and dreary,
The world needs these mature minds,
Among them are some rare finds.
Cheer up all you about to retire,
The world as you think is not on fire,
Move forward with a healthy mind,

If you don’t prepare for tomorrow, today can be a burden. Many parents dedicate themselves to their children to the point of forgetting about their future. They believe that their children will take care of them, but that dream doesn’t always come true. Being independent after retirement is a gift of peace.

Your poetry is so inspiring. It reminds us that retirement is not an end, but a new beginning. It is a chance to take things slow, enjoy life without pressure, and return to the things that bring you true joy.

Retirees have unique wisdom. The world needs them as mentors, friends, and sources of hope. Your message is valuable: a healthy retirement is a blessing, not a burden. Keep writing and inspiring others.

Your poem is an open eyes for many. I am lucky because I have a good example with my parents. They are both retired but they are completely independent, they have their retirement money every month, they also have the money from a house they rent and besides that they still have a small business that keep them active. They belong to a tradicional music group and have concerts frequently. I am happy to see them active and well and I pray God to keep them this way for many more years.

I retired from working in 2016 when I was 62. My wife who is younger was still employed with a good salary. No problem with our finances. However, when my wife died in 2022 due to covid, I was left alone. Fortunately, I was able to learn stock trading so our money in the bank was invested wisely. For now, I am not looking for an income but only for an occupation, whether voluntary or with a meager allowance.

Glad you like the poem. Many parents make those mistakes just concentrating on their children and forget abaout their future.

When parents are independent there is less burden on their children.

Sad to kow you lost your wife but I admire you that you coped with loneliness doing what brings you happiness. Work when enjoyed can be a good companion

They aren't a burden at all, in fact they are a pillar in my life, they help me a lot but I will also be here for them when and if they need me.

A few years ago, I created a retirement savings plan, where I save money every year. This account has a higher interest rate than regular savings accounts, but I won't be able to use that money until I retire.
