Is insurance more of a safety net or a waste of money?

Postby kat82 » 16 Sep 2025, 03:58

People pay premiums for years without using them. Do you think insurance is truly worth it?

In Croatia women pay premium insurance for several years. When she got sick, they refused new contract saying she is to sick and spend to much money. So no insurance for me expect health.

Something similar happened to me. My telephone company has a mobile insurance. I was admitted, paid the bills and sent them an invoice with all hospital bills on headed paper. But they rejected saying when I fell sick my premium was still new. This truly made me feel like I will never insure again. And I never renewed.

That's why it's important to read the policy before buying any insurance, especially for insurance that concerns your health.

Some life insurance require two years of payments before they pay you. Meaning if you buy life insurance and pass away (not due to self harm) after 1 year and 11 months, they can refuse to pay you. Always review the policy carefully before committing to insurance.

Most of case waste of money because they require you to pay bills and then refund.

To me this is real cheating.

Seems true. You pay them and they will hesitate when it's time to claim.

Hmm...that's a debate and dilemma that everyone has before buying an insurance. There are so many of them and you don't need to buy all. But yes, few important ones like health insurance and life insurance should be bought aas a caution. Unless you earn very well and save a lot after all financial obligations to pay at once for health emergency and something you will leave behind for your loved ones, you should buy these necessary ones as caution and a financial cushion in tough times.

If it was paid once for a lifetime, like for the health that would be ok. But you have to renew it so it is active. Failure means no option than cancellation. Upon that you don't get a refund.
