Feminist and body positive movement attacks Sydney Sweeney for doing this ad. The ad says Sydney Sweeney has great jeans. People are somehow offended because it sounds like Sydney Sweeney has great Jeans. Social Justice warriors attacks American Eagle brand and Sydney Sweeney because of the context of the ad. She also replaced a black plus sized woman as model.
Now she is crying online because of all the bullying
This whole situation is so frustrating. On one hand, I get wanting more diversity in ads—especially since she replaced a plus-sized Black model—but attacking Sydney for taking a job feels misdirected. Like, blame the brand’s casting choices, not the actress trying to pay her bills.
The ‘great jeans’ line being ‘offensive’ seems like such a reach though? Unless there’s some hidden meaning I’m missing, it just sounds like a basic pun. But the internet loves turning molehills into moral mountains.
That said, seeing Sydney actually break down over the bullying sucks. Nobody deserves that kind of pile-on, even if you disagree with the ad. Can we please normalize criticizing corporations without dragging individuals?
