This is an exciting moment in space exploration. Katy Perry and her all-female crew are breaking new ground. Let's hope for a smooth and successful flight.

I have to laugh about about this.
I'm pretty sure Jeff Bezos did not expect this kind of backlash.

I am also laughing because it seems that Oprah's friend, Gayle King, didn't even want to go. But Ms. OW made her do it! She's probably really pissed right now.

First, she didn't even want to go AND now people are hating on her saying she's not a real astronaut.

I'm loving this!

I'm against space tourism.
I want them to get as much bad publicity as possible.
Bezos, Musk, Branson ... I hope they all fail in these endeavors.

I think they're all SELFISH!
Wrecking this precious planet for 10 minutes of FUN!

I can't swim, and I don't do mountain climbing. :D
Even so … these are established tourism industries and there are others who have taken up the “charge” of trying to stop those engaged in these recreational activities from destroying the environment.

By the way, that underwater submersible that imploded and killed everybody when they went diving to see the wreck of the Titanic already ruined that guy's chances for being the “Jeff Bezos of underwater tourism”.

I don't know what's happening in other countries but in America, we got planes and helicopters crashing and catching on fire almost every week! That's not bad enough?

People spoke out against the impact on the environment of SpaceX rocket explosions.
You know what the gov't said? SpaceX is going to do a “self-investigation”.
~ TRANSLATE: Billionaires can do whatever they want to do!

The space exploration that the government does has already impacted our environment. We got a bunch of debris in floating in outer space. Rocket emissions affected the ozone layer. Etc.

But now there are people adversely impacting the environment for “10 minutes of fun in space”?

I'm not the type of person who just complains for no reason!

I think my gripes about “space tourism” are LEGIT!

Methinks it is utter vanity for someone to go to space as a tourist.
But then again, Blue Origin have to make bank. ;)

Why do you think it is vanity? I'd love to go and see Earth and the moon from space. It's from curiosity and wonder, not from any form of vanity.

I second your view. The current tourist space missions are mainly fueled by vanity and hype.
But then again, let the haves have it.

Do you know first astronauts in space missions and missions on Moon were threated as rock stars? NASA organize different promotion campaings, they were guests in shows, their wives to. So what is different in that with this event with Kate?

I doubt people would be willing to recognize them as true astronauts, since they did not go through any special training.

But Mr. @Fergal. Are you willing to do it at the expense of destroying the Earth? I think humans have to choose. Live on the Earth and maintain it OR admire it from a distance for a few minutes. From outer space, you really can't see the damage and pollution.

We're on Earth, and we can't see all the junk and debris space explorers left behind on the moon or Mars. But it's there! No sentient beings are living on the moon or Mars. But if there were, they'd probably complain about us creating a mess for them to clean up!

Just saying. We should be satisfied with watching Star Trek. ;)

Indeed, to each their own.

Of course these space tourists are not astronauts.
They are merely wealthy people who do not mind taking expensive risks.
Their voyages are both costly financially and also risky.

Do space tourism tips like that leave a lot of debris in space?

I would not agree with you. In every tourism you have trash from people. From simple walking, going on beach, mountain climbers. People just don't know how to save enviroment around us.

They haven't had enough trips yet. Give mankind a chance. They'll trash up the place! I don't have faith in humans.

Nobody is making Elon Musk do anything about the SpaceX ships that blew up. He's trashing the earth!

Anyway! Why listen to me?

Katy Perry admits she's hurt by online mockery. Has the ridicule gone too far? https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/katy- ... r-AA1Egif9

Enough with the mocking already!
I think the all-female team of “fake astronauts” got the message.

OK! Last time! I promise not to mock again!
Really! I promise. :D <3

The basic requirements to be an astronaut beyond going to space is to have a degree in STEM subjects. And Katy Perry and her gang doesn't have it. They are just space tourists. Even the STEM based individuals in their crew.
