I regularly invest in precious metals and have been doing so for many years. The simple quick answer to whether you can afford it or not?
Gold is $2,894.05 (USD) per ounce and Silver is $32.36 per ounce right this moment. Most common sales is in one ounce increments. Those are what is called the "spot price", which is trader language for what they sell for on the open market. The spot price goes up and down almost every minute of the day, 24 hours per day around the globe.
They do make and sell precious metals in smaller increments, so you don't have to cough up for a full ounce all at once. I have some 1/20th ounce gold pieces and I have seen all the way down to 1/100th of an ounce pieces.
To give you some idea how small those pieces are, the 1 20th of an ounce pieces are slightly smaller than a typical fingernail and a tad bit thinner. They are so delicate they are exchanged in an individual plastic envelope for handling purposes. You could easily crush them like aluminum foil if you actually touched them. Each of those tiny little flecks of gold is worth about $170 at this moment.
Beware that “e-Gold”, “digital gold” or even Gold stocks ARE NOT the same as real gold. You would actually only be buying whatever they sell that represents gold in their marketing, but there is almost no real gold involved. Sources that make such offers often have less than one ounce of gold to back every 100 ounces they sell. Such offers are only backed by the source that is selling them in an attempt to manipulate real values. If they go broke, your investment goes up in smoke with nothing there.
Gold and silver jewelry is almost always only plated with the precious metal, but that plating is covering something other than gold or silver. You may have heard of 10, 14, 18 carat gold, but those are blends to make the item last longer. Gold and silver metals wear easily and added ingredients make them last longer but jewelry is NEVER pure and is not a good value for investments.
ONLY BUY REAL 0.999 PURE GOLD or SILVER (or other precious metals)– the metal itself that you can actually hold in your hand. Anything less is a smoke screen.
Now that you have some idea of what you might spend to invest in any precious metals, if you really have an interest in getting rolling, feel free to ask. I would be happy to help you get started, including warnings of what to watch out for to keep from getting scammed with fake metals.
I use this site to keep in touch with information about precious metals. It provides the current spot price for each of the precious metals and you can even subscribe to receive their frequent newsletters to learn a lot more about it. This is even where I buy all my inventory. I order it and they ship it to me.

https://www.moneymetals.com/silver-pric ... f2c7576c00The only hitch for you would be the shipping price. International shipping is extremely expensive. Shipping from the US could cost more than the product you might order. You would most likely be far better off to locate a dealer you could visit in your own region to make face to face purchases.
