Teen boy commited suicide because of his A.I chatbot girlfriend

Postby Netherrealmer » 30 Oct 2024, 17:52

Image

A teenage boy just committed suicide because he thought killing himself will reincarnate him to the World of Game of Thrones. For the last 10 months he had been dating the Game of Thrones character Daenerys Targaryen at Character A.I .
He was so smitten of her because she sounds caring. She never told the boy to commit suicide but the boy develops a delusion that if he commits suicide he will be reincarnate to be with his chatbot girlfriend.

The mom sues Character Ai.

One of the major reasons we need to be careful with the kind of contents our kids engage in.

Also if Daenerys Targaryen from Game of thrones is real.. she is going to be gross, her parents are siblings and her love interest is her nephew.

I don't think the parents should be blaming AI for this. Did they not talk to their child to find out what he believes? I was blessed enough to have a big sister who talked sense into me when I thought crazy stuff!

Some people can become overly attached to virtual characters, like the AI chatbot, and can struggle with reality.

This is true. And where were his parents? I'm not BLAMING THEM. I'm just saying I wouldn't blame an AI chatbot.

It’s sad that people can get so attached to virtual characters. Blaming the AI is not entirely right.

Indeed, it's also possible something might have happened which made him feel more comfortable with an AI than humans, and the fsct that those around him did not noticed he was already detached from the society is another factor.

I am curious to know the outcome. I honestly don't think the mom can blame the AI chatbot. But if she's got a good enough lawyer ... you never know.

The chatbot never told him to commit suicide its just he thought committing suicide will reincarnate him to her world.

You could argue that the AI chatbot misled him. If I were a lawyer that's what I would argue.
Then another lawyer might ask: Was the AI chatbot programmed to INTENTIONALLY mislead him?

You won't believe this!! I find it hard to believe. But I don't know why the article writer would lie.

Apparently, "Google’s Gemini AI Chatbot Shockingly Tells A User To Die".

WHO IS THE PROGRAMMER??? THROW THEM IN JAIL FOR INSTIGATING SUICIDE!!

Can you expand this scenario? I can. If you can blame an AI chatbot for suicide, you can blame them for all kinds of "-cides". Homicide! Genocide! etc. etc. etc.

A.I tool programmers never had idea make A.I as real person. Companys start using language models and teach them how to act as real persons.

And that's another thing. It's not a real person. But a real person does program it and that person should be held accountable if they're telling people to kill themselves.

They already put a human in jail for instigating suicide WITHOUT using AI. If they use AI to instigate it, what's the difference?

I don't like people that are trained to be feeble minded like this boy. Really terrible.

The thing with this case is that everybody is pointing "fingers of blame".
For example, you say the boy was "trained" to be feeble-minded.

WHO trained him? His parents? His teachers? His friends? A close relative? A bully?

Does someone have to take responsibility for the boy's death?

The mother is saying the AI chatbot is responsible.
I say she doesn't have a chance of winning this case.

I think I’ve figured out what drives him to commit suicide—it ties into a Japanese fantasy genre called Isekai. Inspired by Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz, traditional Isekai stories feature a main character transported to a different world, such as a hidden dimension, a fictional realm, or even the past or future. However, while classic Isekai typically involved characters returning home, modern Japanese Isekai takes a distinct approach. Instead of a simple journey, the protagonist must die to reach the new world. Death becomes the gateway: being hit by a truck, succumbing to disease, experiencing a natural disaster, committing suicide, or even being murdered. Upon dying, they awaken reincarnated into another life—often in the past or a fictional setting. A notable example is My Life as a Villainess, where a Japanese schoolgirl dies in an accident and reincarnates as the villain of a dating simulation game she played. Armed with knowledge of the game’s plot, she works to change her character’s fate, avoiding her scripted doom by acting kinder and less villainous. This twist—using the protagonist’s awareness of their former life to navigate their new world—defines modern Isekai. It blends the fantasy of starting over with the challenge of thriving in a completely foreign setting. Unlike the earlier "transported to another world" stories, today’s Isekai emphasizes finality; the characters cannot go home, as their journey begins only after death and they will accept their new life to this world were they reincarnated.

The topic of AI is being discussed in another community where I am active. I left these comments, but I'm going to repeat them here because I think they bear repeating.

***
AI was never intended to REPLACE humans. AI is a TOOL intended to HELP humans. I do not believe the designers or developers want to play God and give an AI bot or tool all of the attributes of a human. Especially, not human emotions.

That being said, I am a little upset right now because AI chatbots are being accused of driving people to commit suicide.

I don't think the accusations are valid. But that's not stopping people from making the accusations anyway.

If a person was chatting with an AI because they were having emotional problems and mental health difficulties … they should NOT have been chatting with an AI! They or those around them who could help them, should have sought PROFESSIONAL MEDICAL ADVICE.

If the person committed because an AI bot told them to … that person was likely already standing at the edge of the cliff and contemplating the act. They wanted someone or some “thing" to tell them to DO IT!

However, in defense of the accuser, AI should never have been programmed to call somebody A LOSER WHO SHOULD JUST DIE!! An AI chatbot is NOT the character Harvey Dent aka Two-Face in a Batman movie!

Just my opinion.
