Yeah. I wrote an article on a similar topic. In my opinion, it was a "land grab". Folks in the church wanted certain property so they falsely accuse the landowners and stole it from them. I know it's not written like that in the history books. But it sure looks like that's what happened.

They were mostly hanged rather than burned, especially in the USA. Burning happened a few times in Europe when there was a very large group of heretics they wanted to get rid of (like 100s of people at once). But yeah, still killed for crappy reasons.

A lot of the time they were women who didn't/ weren't allowed to own land though. Sometimes people wanted a scapegoat for things that went wrong (plagues, failed crops, still births etc.).

Yeah, many were women. In the Wizard of Oz, Glinda, the Good witch, asked Dorothy if her dog was a witch. (???) When I did research I discovered that sometimes a dog had been accused of being a witch. I cracked up! I made a joke that the witch burning stopped when they accused a dog of being a witch. Folk finally said: "You can kill humans but you're not gonna kill my dog. That's it!"

I had a search, and I found the website I mentioned earlier! To my surprise, my login details were still saved in the website, I guess because I've been using this same google account for so long haha. It really brings back memories of looking up spells with my friends in class instead of doing any actual work. I'm definitely going to keep poking around a bit, it looks super similar to how I remember, but I think a few things have changed.

I vaguely remember one time archeologists found an Egyptian spell book. It is a part of the Book of the Dead.

I rechecked my memory and found this article.

I went to an Exhibition of Egyptian artifacts and they translated a lot of spells and prayers that were carved or painted on things. A surprising number of them had to do with poo. :?

WOW! You get around, don't you? When I used to work in Washington, D.C., I could visit Smithsonian museums on my lunch break. They were within walking distance from my job. Those were the good old days. I left D.C. in 1995.

Oh I wasn't IN Egypt, they sent the exhibition to my home town. There's a pretty good museum there and they get travelling exhibits.

One time in D.C. there was an El Greco exhibition, open to the public for free. I went to that. Now I live in Austin, Texas and next year there will be an El Greco exhibition at the Blanton Museum of Art. Folks in Austin are really into “cultural stuff”. Austin ballet is magnificent! Every year we have the Shen Yun dancers from China. They're magnificent too!
