In a way it works because when you switch to a basic phone for example Jio phone in India then you will get cheaper plans and can make calls and text and they also have the option to use 4G internet but if we don't like to use Internet on phone then also its quite useful and we can keep the mobile data off and use Internet on our computer and this way we can also keep our bank account safe because with smartphone most of us pay online and phones can be easily hacked thanks to the apps available in play store and how many permission they ask before we install them

not for me, Messenger is free and only works on smart phones, Basic phones like Nokia 3210 will make me spend money for every text or calls. Messenger and skype are free.
