I'd have to go with HP because I've never used a Dell laptop. My old HP laptop served me well for nearly a decade. For a change, I'm currently using MAC.

The answer is not straightforward. Ponder on questions like :
A)The type of processor that you want - Intel or AMD (These are the two more well known ones).
B)Price range
C)Smaller or Bigger one- often smaller ones can have more heating issues.
D)Gaming/Business/Non-Gaming
Both Dell and HP have laptops in various configurations and price ranges.
Look wise I think HP could score better but in terms of longevity, parts availability, servicing, I think both have their pros and cons.

I would recommend having a look at the various models on Amazon first.
Check reviews of various models.
Ask your friends or colleagues.
Then visit physical stores - either of HP or Dell exclusively or a Multi brand store.
Try to get all the information. Then make an informed decision.

I hope this all helps, at least in some ways !!

I can't use a HP laptop. They are good with PC accessories but not PC itself. I prefer Dell over HP.

Can you please expand on that, what is your reason for saying that?

My First laptop was a HP. It was back in 2010, it was a sweet memory as having a laptop back then was a big thing for me. Haven't used Dell before, but it always seemed to be a premium brand for me.

I would always recomend Dell before HP but lately I would change my mind. Latest few Dell models have problems with overheating. Laptop work good but heat is coming on keyboard. Users complain how they can't type how warm keyboard is.
From other side, HP model G7 Probook (it is more expensive than Dell) show great performance. Except problem with sound drivers on Windows 10, everything else works fine even after 4 years.

HP laptop is the best if you use HP product it's dose last long my Dell laptop start developing a certain fault which was too costly to fixed so I opted for HP product and am still using it till today without any issue

I have a contrary feeling. I would go for Dell instead of HP any day as I always feel Dell products to be more premium than HP, being an old HP user.

I cannot however say the same about the subsequent 2 devices: each one has had problems of its own. These experiences have prompted me to begin thinking about switching from HP to Dell.

I am thus seeking your views on which laptop model is better, between HP and Dell.
When you talk of durability and performance, the Lenovo Thinkpad looks to win among the laptops I have used. I have a Dell but the mouse scrolls very slow i that I have to use an external. But my Lenovo, superb. If I was to buy a new one, a Lenovo would work for me. Oh, but between Dell and Hp, go for Dell.

Lenovo is a good PC but even HP is more durable than it. It is just a just okay brand when it comes to PCs.

My desktop was assembled, and it's second-hand. The keyboard is HP, and the monitor is Dell. I love it either way. The CPU is HP.
