A lot of adults buy video game consoles (which I consider a toy) because video games are addictive. When we bought our kids their first video game player (an Atari), my late husband started playing games with them. My husband and I did not grow up in the video game generation. But he had no problem learning how to play and gladly joined in on the fun.

Depending on the kind of toys that you are talking about. Adults were children before they grew up so there are nothing absolutely wrong with adults getting toys for themselves to play when they are lonely.
