Continuing Education : Vocabulary Words : 5 English Words That Begin With “EC” … “CE”

Postby cmoneyspinner » 03 Jun 2021, 01:43

I am continuing to have fun learning new English words. English is my first language but my vocabulary could use some improvement. This is my second post.

This was my first post.
5 English Words That Begin With “AB” … “BA”

What I'm doing is I'm using the vowels … A, E, I, O, U.
~ Then the consonants in the order they appear in the alphabets.

So the first vowel was the letter A and the first consonant is the letter B. Hence, my first post, AB … BA.

In this post the second vowel is E and the second consonant is C.

So this post has 5 English words that begin with “EC” and 5 English words that begin with “CE”.

■ 5 English Words That Begin With “EC”:

écarté – a card game for two players, played originally in 19th-century France, in which thirty-two cards are used, and certain cards may be discarded in exchange for others.

(NOTE: It is also a classical ballet term meaning “separated, thrown apart.” For purposes of this article, I prefer the first definition.)

The game of cards known as écarté has been mentioned in notable works such “The Count of Monte Cristo” and “The Hound of the Baskervilles”.

(NOTE: If you are interested in learning how to play this game you can find the rules at Whiteknuckle Playing Cards.)

ecesis – the act of inhabiting; the process of successful establishment of a plant or an animal species in a habitat that was previously barren; or was left barren due to some catastrophe.

The absence of pollinating insects is sometimes a curious barrier to the complete ecesis of species far out of their usual habitat or region.

echoic – onomatopoeic | onomatopoeia – word formation by imitation of the sound made by what is represented; words chosen to imitate sound (Examples: splash or tinkle)

"Haha" is an example of an echoic word for laughter.

éclat – (1) an ostentatious display : publicity; (2) a dazzling effect : brilliance.

At one time the phrase "to make an éclat" was meant to express that someone or something was used to create a sensation, likely for the sake of publicity.

ecru – (unbleached) a light tan color

The color of her wedding dress was not pure white; instead the color she chose was ecru, with trimmings of silver, and gold.

I don't think I would be using any of these words. It is really difficult to remember the words that are not used in everyday communication. But I appreciate how you are helping people like me who use English as a second language.
