I have been struggling with promoting my instagram account. And it's been a while since I am planning to take the numbers higher. So I thought I should document what I have done and how I have managed to grow the account so far. So here hopefully I assume you would find some of my observation useful for building your own account on instagram. So here are some of the things you should do for growing the account.

Video Content

Instagram is growing platform for the video content. And it is regularly increasing in traffic for the video. So make sure to have at-least 1 video a week. That may or may not get you followers but it would be shared and you can get more better value out of the content posted. So I'd say in such case video content definitely helps out. You should consider creating small videos at start then take the promotion ahead with longer videos.

Cross Promotion

You should make some friends who can do the promotion for you. For example, I have one friend that shares my content with his friends. And that approach definitely helps out with the traffic. I do get few followers here and there. But there does not seem to be anything perfect with it as well. I just make sure to promote his content when he asks. So such mutual promotion definitely helps me some of the time.

Audio Content

I mostly make the audio content with some inspiration audio etc. And some of the time fixed GIF and the audio content definitely helps as well. I know for sure that some feature options that helps in such case would be reaching to specific set of groups and forums is also a good thing. I mostly think that some people who are in category of self help and few others help a lot with the audio content.

Longer Content

Once you get verified you are going to find a value out of long form content. You have to write content accordingly and then convert into the video or audio content of your choice. I am yet to verify my account due to lack of followers. But I am sure at some point I may reach that level. So you should also consider longer content as much better option too. Because you never know which may get viral and works out for you.

Instagram is one of the fast moving platform. And nothing is permanent there. You have to continue to experiment with the content and see if that helps grow the account. It takes a lot of time to grow the account from zero to higher numbers. So continue to experiment and see where it takes you. HEY! I do not pretend I'm 18.

But I do agree with you about visuals. I am attracted to visually appealing Instagrammers and notice that when I post pretty images lots of people like and/or comment. I also share to my Facebook profile or pages. That helps.

You can post some good videos, or use IGTV. Else, one can follow others, like and comment on others' content, and gradually make it a bit collaborative, somewhat Mylot style.

I have an IG account for my blog but always forget to share some of our graphics on there. There's just so many platforms now that I sadly struggle to stay on top of them. But thanks a lot for sharing, @skysnap These are useful pointers!
