Wake up the world needs you. Yes You. I am addressing you. Let me take you to those powerful words of the late John f. Kennedy, the then President of the United States of America.
"My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."
I will word it slightly differently and say
Ladies and gentlemen, ask not what the world can do for you but what you can do for the world
The world is on the verge of total destruction and the total blame goes to every individual living and dead.
Unless individuals wake up no government can do anything no matter how many laws are put in place.
The role of an individual cannot be underestimated. It is a huge role however small the act can be It is the individual that can make or mar.
Here is how.
Garbage management Do not throw garbage on the streets. Convert wet garbage into useful compost. Just dump the wet garbage in a pit. Spread soil over it at regular intervals and in a year’s time the best compost is produced. The solid garbage can be handed over to the garbage collector
Saving water Just one litre a day by an individual can add up to a trillion or more litres of water, the world over.
Saving energy Put off light and fans when not needed This small act can lead to savings of energy the world over –
Increasing greenery Plant a tree. Yes just one. If you can, plant more. That can have a tremendous effect on the deforestation created by concrete jungles.
Watching neighbours Do not put up with the wrong doings of your neighbour who plays a negative role. Speak up even at the cost of upsetting them. Time diffuses situations and you will again be friends. .
Reducing noise pollution Do not fire crackers and do speak up when others indulge in these unhealthy practices. Use earphones to listen to your favourite music. Others have their own. They do not need to listen to yours.
Taking care of public property. Do not urinate on sides of roads – not only it is an ugly site but it will pollute the environment around
Being proactive wherever and whenever. Spread the word around. You do not have to stand on the stage and do it but in a simple conversation with friends, neighbours, family members and this can do wonders.
May be there are many more activities that can help retrieve what we have lost. If an individual makes up their mind and takes cudgels in their hand to play that small role towards improving the condition of this broken world that role will yield mega results.
The population is busting at the seams and it is this population that should wake up and play their role. When done, situations can change overnight.
We hear of grandiose plans the world leaders have to take care of the climate change but without the help of the individual they can do nothing. It is at the grass root level where action is.
When the time comes to pass one should be able to say that they have a left a better world behind.
