Social Media Management : Continuing My Instagram Journey

Postby cmoneyspinner » 28 Dec 2018, 03:18

In November 2017, I accepted an invitation from a Facebook friend to create an Instagram. Once the account was created I had to find a tool that would let me post from my laptop. It so happens that there is a browser extension “Desktop for Instagram” and I installed it on both the Chrome and Firefox browsers. Once I could post to account from my laptop instead of using a mobile device, it was smooth sailing.

During the first half of 2018, I wrote two (2) articles sharing my advice, tips and tricks using Instagram based on my experience.

Instagram Tips for Bloggers and Beginners

So far, my experience with Instagram has been great! I don't know if my experience is normal or abnormal. If you are an Instagram user you can contrast and compare the results I report in this article and then say “Eh! Same thing happened to me.” … or … “That didn't happen when I used Instagram.”

These are my two plusses for using Instagram.

(1) Everyone knows that to be effective on social media you need two things: Followers and Likes. Comments are nice too! Out of all the social media platforms that I have used (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Tumblr, etc.), it seems to be very easy to gain a following on Instagram. Almost every day I sign in, I have new followers. Each day my posts also have likes and every now and then someone leaves a comment. A genuine comment. Not spam. Buffer.com supplies Instagram marketing tips in their article on how to grow your following (link below). Their advice is fantastic. But the fact of the matter is, I did most of that before I knew that was what I was supposed to be doing. LOL. It's a great checklist to refer to though.

(2) Instagram is the first social media platform where representatives from companies have contacted me and asked me to become an authorized affiliate for their products. All of the affiliate marketing programs I participate in, first I had to find them and then sign up. Companies didn't send me an eMail or leave a comment at one of my posts asking me if I would like to be an affiliate. Must have something to do with “influencer marketing”.

“Influencer marketing is a form of marketing in which focus is placed on influential people rather than the target market as a whole on social media. It identifies the individuals who have influence over potential customers, and orients marketing activities around these influencers.” (Source: Wikipedia)

I suspect that I am being contacted because the activity on my account indicates I may have a little bit of influence. Right now I have a personal Instagram account, although I use it for my home business projects. I think that if I had an Instagram business account my affiliate marketing efforts would be more profitable. Business accounts have additional features. But for now I'm taking “baby steps”.

How to Create an Instagram Business Account and Why You’d Want To

PROGRESS REPORT:
My Instagram journey began November 2017. In December 2018, I took a bold baby step! I created my second (2nd) Instagram account. This account was set up to support my Facebook business pages. The niche is online shopping and I plan to use it for more aggressive affiliate marketing of products.

We have an Instagram account. We aim to popularize our videos through that. We have got a few followers too. Yet we are still learning how to engage people to get hooked to our videos.
Some people get more followers by good use of different photographs.

Those who post videos via Instagram seem to do quite well.

and those who uses filters to look hotter and younger do well too. Influencers who dont show faces that do well are usually artists, food porn makers and photographers.

I don't use the IG account for business, although some teens love IG more than Facebook.

But we have to think a lot about which photograph to use with which video.

If I have a social media account I'm going to try to figure out if I can make money from it. That's my Golden Online Rule. Otherwise my husband says I'm just wasting time when I could be out working a real job. I try to convince him that online is a real job. For me it's just not a steady paycheck. But it's a real job!
