What’s the most intense, frustrating, or epic boss fight you’ve ever had? Did you finally beat it, or did it break your spirit?

I had been working as a store manager for many years. The owners decided to sell the business and retire. A buyer came along and offered to buy, as long as I remained to continue running the store and I was happy to keep my job. All seemed well in the transition.

The new boss turned out to be somewhat abrasive. He frequently told stories about his past mafia connections, including many of his escapades, even to the regular customers. A lot of people were actually scared of him. One guy in particular was a long time customer, but he tended to ignore paying his long overdue account without a lot of prodding.

Every time I called for collections I could only reach his answering machine, but he never returned my calls. I finally was prepared for that and left a message that worked, especially since he was one of the customers who was scared of the new owner. "Michael, oh Michael, what shall I do? Your account with us is way overdue. If you don't pay quick, the boss will be blue. Wait just too long and he'll come and get you." Doggone if he didn't show up the next morning to pay his account in full! :D

The boss was also abrasive to me even though he needed me to run the store. He knew nothing about the business. I can't recall what the argument was about, but it was something he was trying to do and I was arguing that it was not proper procedure. He was getting madder and madder and threatened to beat me up. He was red faced and shaking he was so mad as the screaming match escalated. When he raised his fists to begin, I calmly begged him to take his best shot. "Go ahead. Do your best. I will own this store after the lawsuit".

Aw shoot. That made him back away in a hurry. I would have been rich if he had made contact. Too many witnesses. I quit right after that and got a better job.

I think when she said boss fightd she talks about video game antagonists.
____

In Red Dead Redemption, there's a mission where you're told Bigfoot eats babies. So, you hunt them down, killing as many as you can for justice—only to find out later they only eat berries and mushrooms. The guilt hits hard.

In No More Heroes, you fight the top 10 assassins to become number one. One of them, Holy Summers, is a beautiful one-legged soldier with a tragic past. But you have to kill her.

In Resident Evil 3, Nemesis is a terrifying 9-foot-tall monster that keeps coming back stronger every time you think he’s dead. He’s relentless, always hunting Jill Valentine.

In Shadow of the Colossus, you kill giant creatures called Colossi, only to realize at the end that they weren’t evil. You were tricked.

In Metal Gear Solid, Big Boss is forced to kill his mentor, The Boss, believing she betrayed the U.S. But after she dies, he learns the truth—she was loyal all along. The U.S. just needed someone to blame. The guilt is unbearable.

RPGs have some of the most brutal boss fights, and I still have nightmares about Yiazmat from Final Fantasy XII. That thing had 50 million HP and took actual hours to bring down.

It was a test of patience, endurance, and willpower. What’s an RPG boss that pushed you to the limit—did you beat it, or did it break you?
