Opening search results on a different tab [by default]

Postby germainebull » 17 Mar 2025, 15:09

Picture this: You’re diving into a web search rabbit hole, and each result opens in a fresh tab. Convenient or cluttered? On the bright side, defaulting to new tabs lets you compare multiple sources without losing your original search page. It’s a multitasker’s dream! But, too many tabs can quickly spiral into chaos, leaving your browser (and your brain) overwhelmed.

The choice boils down to preference—some love the streamlined focus of a single tab, while others thrive on tabbed exploration. Thankfully, browser settings and plugins let you choose your ideal browsing vibe. Tabs galore or simple flow—what’s your style? 😊

Any time I am doing research, I always choose to open results on a new tab. That way the original page remains as I left it while I study the new content and can then close the added tab when I am finished. As you mentioned, I often have several tabs open so I can go back and forth for comparisons.

When I update records for ForumCoin, I have the home page for the starting point and open a new tab for every member's profile page who had logged in during the latest 48 hours. I can then just jump from one page to the next as I update each record, closing them one at a time after recording the changes. I can have up to 45 or so tabs open all at the same time with no issues. If I have some reason to open the posted topics search page for any single member, I open that in a new window and close it again after review. Everything else remains as I left it even with those added review pages. It all makes it easier to make sure I didn't miss any update.

I must admit you have a methodical and ordered policy of browsing.
When I grow up, I want to emulate your approach. :D
