That means they won't be able to update their tablet and they wont be able to download apps on the store like Youtube and Netflix unless they are installed already. This is their strategy to make you buy new models. this reminds me on what happened to Window 7 users. If you are a Windows 7 user and you accidentally uninstalled chrome, You wont be able to reinstall it.

I suppose this has a similar impact on users as software updates that limit battery usage and cause devices to run so slowly that they are practically unusable. I can understand why they would stop supporting older versions of software, but it does seem unfair to stop the ability to download from the app store, for older devices.

This strategy is oftenly used by most businesses to make more sales on their new products. For me I think this not fair though.

Can't blame them. They do such sort of things to make the new products successful in the market. I am still not going to buy any apple product for long. I prefer to go for my pocket friendly models.

Windows changed little strategy. Now you must buy new computer if you want have Windows 11. First versions of Windows 10 already don't have support anymore. In 2025 Windows 10 will stop support complete.

I think these tablets can still be useful as long as you wont uninstall the the apps. There are apps though that refuses to update in old devices and refuses to work if they are not updated

This is what Apple is doing from long now, they have stopped Software updates on many iPhone models so after a while you need to switch to a higher model but its so damn expensive

I guess this is a new trend now, even Androids have stopped supporting their old products, some time back i heard windows would also stop anything below windows 10.

It is a marketing strategy as well as a tech driven initiative. Those old devices really don't have the specs to support modern software advancements.

They can make hell from money in shell companys and Kayman Island accounts. Just cashout everything and burn it. Cash reserves are probably around the tens of billions of dollars. They need like 10 big trucks to carry everything

This is yet another case of capitalism doing injury to customers. It is disgusting for Apple to apply this cruel tactic in a bid to increase sales.
I am however certain that many customers will fall for this trick, all because Apple products are revered worldwide.

Ever since Steve Jobs died, I feel Apple has increasingly become all about the bottomline and doesn't care at all about the consumer. This is just one example. Yet another - my husband and I recently bought new iPhones because the batteries for our old ones were ridiculously useless. Imagine our shock when we learnt Apple no longer supplies accessories with new phones! If it were up to me, we'd stop propping Apple up. Sick of it.

Yes, I noticed this on a gen 1 Ipad Mini. We managed to get a final update but now it won't run the YouTube app without updating it. When we try to update the YT app, it says we have to upload the latest compatible version. Fine so far. Except the button to install just keeps appearing every time we press it so it's on a loop and does nothing. Should have got an Android. My old Android of the same year works fine.

There are lots of Android alternatives which are very good phones.
