Free games, sales and discounts (Steam, GOG, Origin...)

Postby Vens » 03 Jun 2015, 15:19

sites like Steam, GOG, Humble Store, Origing and others often have special special sales going on. I'm always keep track of them so I'm gonna post it here so it's useful to others and we can discuss what games we bought.

DRM Free summer sale started on GOG! A lot of games are discounted, some are 90% off. You also get free games for spending money. The more games you buy, the more games you get for free. there are special themed bundles like Lucas adventure games, D&D games etc. You can find some really great games for dollar or less. The games stay on sale for a certain period then they switch for other games so keep an eye on those you want.

HUGE amount of discounted games on gog.com sale and a lot of sick bundles at the moment.

They are also giving Battle Realms for free and expansion Winter of the Wolf. You just need to register on order to get a free game.

Just bought The Last Door: Collector's Edition on GOG. It's a Lovecraftian point and click adventure horror made intentionally in very pixelated style that makes you imagine the scene and fill the visuals, kinda in a similar way the books do.

Then I got The Hat Man: Shadow Ward, a first person horror game involving shadow people. It was only $0.19, 96% off and I like horror games + shadow people creep me out more than anything so when I first heard there's a game with shadow people, I knew I had to play it.

Here's what I got from the sales so far:

System Shock 2- €1.39 (GOG, 85% off)
Sim City 2000 Special Edition - Free (GOG)
To The Moon - €1.89 (GOG, 79% off)
Battle Realms - Free (GOG)
The Last Door Collector's Edition - €2.29 (GOG, 75% off)

Humble Bundle- €0.01
World of Goo
Super Meat Boy
Dustforce DX

The Hat Man: Shadow Ward - $0.19 (Steam, 96% off)
Psychonauts - €0.01 (HumbleBundle E3 Digital Ticket, pay what you want)
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons - €1.49 (Steam, 90% off)

--- 15 Jun 2015, 16:54 ---

E3 Digital Ticket:

A lot of games and digital goodies such as DLCs, monthly Twitch turbo, 10% coupons for Humble Store, free MMO for limited time...you can pay what you want to get all of that (even if you spend just 1 cent lol).

Bought Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons for €1.49, 90% off. It's Toalbuiscuit's favorite game ever along with original Deus Ex so I'm very interested. The game has innovative mechanics where you control both characters - brothers, with each stick on the controller at the same time and their interaction is key to the progress. But what makes Brothers great is the way it tells the story. The game is fairly short, about 2 hours, but from I've heard it should be worthwhile experience.

Also scored Psychonauts, Tim Schafer's cult classic for just 1 cent lol.

But this thread is more and more turning into my personal blog. So many gamers on this forum yet no one is buying games during the biggest sale of the year. You must be all pirates

Don't know about other 2 but Condemned is on my list to play. I went with GOG rather than Steam for the final day.

Got my last 3 games and I'm done with the sales.

I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream
The Longest Journey
The Witcher Enhanced Edition

I prefer to have all my games on Steam. Even the ones i have a phisical copy ( they arent much ) i try to have them on Steam , slowly adding them to my Steam account.

Gyromancer is like Puzzle Quest ..or bejeweled ( you "fight" that way but is more than that , a bit rpg like puzzle quest ).
Card City Nights i read about it in a Steam forum/discussion topic where a guy was asking for card games recomendations/sugestions. I like card games like Magic the gathering (TCGs, shame steam dont have the Marvel TCG ) so this one looks good for me.

I bought 2 more games in the last day almost when the steam summer sale was almost ending , Counter Strike GO and Blood Omen 2.
Blood Omen is one of the games i have in Physical copy and i love, or use to love that game ( last time i played it was long time ago ) , very good.
Counter Strike im not a fan, only bought it because of the drops, lets see if i can make some profit

I prefer GOG because all the games on there are 100% DRM free and I like their philosophy. GOG games will work with Steam overlay btw. As for cardgames, I suggest you play Magic Online and Heartstone. Non of them are on Steam tho. Magic Online has a really bad and outdated looking client but it's the best online Magic experience. You can sell and trade your digital cards there, enter the tournaments, play draft or old formats. Pretty much every Magic card that ever existed is in that game and it's up to date. The bad thing is you have to pay for boosters but you can get a lot of cards for very cheap from other players. Alternatively you can try Magic Workstation which is 100% free and supports many different card games (including Marvel I bet) and you can play against other players but it's kind of a pain in the ass to set it up. You have to download database and scans of the cards for every game individually but if you go through the trouble it'll work like a charm. I used to test most popular decks on Magic Workstation when I was still playing Magic tournaments and it's incredibly helpful tool. I know Blood Omen, cool game.

btw there's a Borderlands sale on Humble Bundle right now. For a dollar you get Borderlands and some DLC and if you decide to pay $4.33 or more, you get Borderlands 2 + DLC in addition to the first game.

Thanks for the infos and sugestions.
About Borderlands. The 1st i already have ( there is one DLC missing there ). The 2nd i probably gonna buy the GOTY in the future but is something that im not really realy interest to play right now so can wait ( love the 1st but never finished all the DLCs and since the 2nd i think is more of the same...)

I have use magic Workstation and play games there when i used to play Magic with real cards.
And Magic Online, pay to play, na...

Yeah Magic online is expensive as hell, almost like real cards. I bought the game (you have to pay to get the account) for $10 when I was slightly losing interest in Magic but I found out I can't even play because I didn't have any cards. With an account they just give you a bunch of older cards and non of them are good and all I wished was to play standard. So I kinda gave up on the game pretty early after purchasing. But if you are more serious about Magic it's great cause you can play tournaments whenever you want and win digital boosters that you can sell just like real cards. Also if you collect at least one copy of every card in specific edition, they will actually send the whole edition to your address in a physical for which is awesome. And it's not that hard to get the full collection since digital cards sell for cheaper and you can make money by selling the physical ones they send to you. But I kinda quit Magic, I kept a single deck that I use from time to time with friends that used to play it also.

lol I just bought Mass Effect 1 on Steam sale for less than €2. I'm spending way too much on video games and I own a huge amount of games that I haven't even started playing. I should really stop spending money lol
