If your arm got amputed from an accident would you prefer a robotic arm or a donated arm?

Postby Netherrealmer » 20 Apr 2019, 15:27

If you lost your arm for whatever circumstances, You can now have 2 existing technologies as a replacement. I want to know which option would you prefer?

Would you prefer a 3d printed robotic arm just like the woman on this photo:

Or would you prefer a surgically attached arm of a dead person:

----
Here are some videos about the technologies!

The bionic arm:

Arm transplant:

I felt uncomfortable with the donated arm because I will be using someone else's hand to wash my face or prepare my food.

I will go for the robotic hand because it will be more enhanced than attached hand

Interesting... this question made me think...
I would choose a robotic arm. Although this technology are evolving (it is not perfect yet) I believe, in the future, it will work perfectly...
I'm imagining training my new arm and even making firmware actualizations from internet...
But, I would surely miss my flesh and bone arm ;)

I think robotic is better, just I don't know why.

I think the reason why some people prefer donor's arm is that they want sensation but yeah touching my face and my down there with someone else's hand is kind of creepy

Well its just an arm, it has no brain, so it wouldnt just decide to try to kill you. Now if they were donating their heart, or brain thats different

But if you have an overactive imagination, you might always worry and wonder about the arm

But great question, Im not which would be my answer

Not really. Although I know it might actually be a problem for some people. In a way, that's why I think donors should remain anonymous. This is a serious note and a true story. There was a Muslim man whose child was going to die. There was an orthodox Jewish man whose child needed an organ or she would die. The doctors performed the transplant surgery from the Muslim child to the Jewish child. The Jewish child lived but the Jewish parents found it very difficult to thank the Muslim father for what he had done. Isn't that a sad story?

This is definitely sad to hear and it's even sadder when we do know why the Jewish parents had a hard time to say thanks. Anyway, I prefer to have a robotic/bionic arm because the tech nowadays is better and much more feasible.

Stories like that above makes one wonder why people finds it hard to use the word THANKS. Is quite disheartening to hear this story.

The biggest risk of a donated organ:

1. You have to take medicine for life so your body wont reject the new organ.

2. Cellular memory- Many people absorbs a personality of their donor. A woman became a fan of American football even though she hated sports. Her donor is a football fan. A guy fell in love with his donor's wife without knowing she is the wife of the donor. A man became a painter without knowing his donor is a painter.

There was an article about an old man who received a heart transplant from a teen who was shot when he was walking home. The man developed a particular interest in listening to classical music because it 'calmed' his heart. Turns out, the teen played the violin and was a classical music student.

This isn't sad, its inhumane and ungrateful. They forget they are first human hen belong to any nation or religion. If people realized that God is one and he created all equally we wont have such attitudes.

On the main discussion I'd rather have a human hand, no artificial hand for me.

There is a case of a heart donated 3 times because all owners committed suicide. That's why cellular memory is scary. You will absorb some of the personality of the owner and the owner is suicidal.

I think robotic arm is a good option for this.

Scientists are now developing robotic arms with sensations! As in it will feel good when it gets massage or it will get hurt if you touch something sharp or hot.

Robotic.
The arm transplant seems very risky, but I wouldn't mind if it was the arm of someone I really like.
Robotic looks cool and supporting the scientists (who have been working on it) is even cooler.
Either way, people will usually be able to tell "there's something wrong with your arm".

I would prefer as close to a human arm as possible. It's probably just an unfounded fear but I would be afraid of a robotic arm because of a lightening storm.

Robotic arm surely. Cannot think of having an arm belonging to a dead person known or unknown.
