There is an ongoing debate among videogame fans. Some fans wanted their favorite videogame characters to be on a floating timeline so they will stay young forever.

Then some fans wanted the characters to age and get older on sequels so the story will move forward. These fans thinks the character who ages is more relatable to fans.

Fans who is against character aging thinks aging a character will make them appear in less sequels because the older they become the less marketable they are. They think characters should be young forever for that reason.

The only time characters should age is when it's a kid and they grow up. If I meet the character as an adult, I want them to stay that way. That's how I feel about animated TV series. So I guess that's how people think about video games. :D

It has all got to do with the story. And most stories revolve around characters that do not age.

It depends on the character and stories. Some characters are timeless and they appeal to certain age groups and they need not age. Pokemon is one such character.

Don’t really know much about game characters and all that but what I know is that it’s depends on the character and the level they want it to be.

The aging of video game characters in sequels can be quite an interesting and nuanced decision, influenced by various factors such as narrative continuity, fan expectations, and the overall vision of the game developers.
