What is Y2K? I never heard of this. Is it one of those things that happened before I was born or something?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_2000_problem

I was only ten years old but remember it vaguely. It happened at the end of 1999. Computers stored the year with 2 digits like, "99" for 1999 and so on. This meant that when the calendars rolled over to the year 2000, the date would be stored as "00" and the computers would think it was 1900. People went crazy that year and thought all the computers would be useless and that pandemonium would ensue. In the end, a bunch of people fixed the problem and nothing happened so that was a relief but people often remember how crazy people acted before Y2K and refer to it whenever huge-technology-breakdown type scenarios like this arise.

A second impact could mean a lot to some people or business and or the internet but I do not see how that could affect me in any way. I am clueless I know but I hope nothing serious really.

Honestly i don't consider this an internet hoax because clearly, we don't know if it's going to occur or not. One thing is for sure, let's all hope that it will not mess up big systems around the world. Besides, if this a fact, then programmers snd developers knew about it and come prepared for the situation.

Let's see if this will happen today :D I'm observing how systems owned by the different countries will react on this. But I do think that this is just a hoax but who knows what will happen.

Is it here yet? I thought I would visit this thread but there is not much of a buzz about this bug. Whether there is an impact on me or not I hope this will not cause anything that the tech people couldn't handle

Is this the latest version of Y2K? I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for this. Why do people need to stir up stuff like this every few years? lol

Here is a source: http://yournewswire.com/extra-second-on ... -internet/

What do you guys think?

let us wait and see whether it is going to be true. We should not believe rumours. They may be right or wrong . But anyway i am going to retire to bed in another 10 mts . So i dont think my system will be affected if at all it is true :)

Its not hoax, just google leap second, you will come to know everything about it, and this addition of second can cause problems for the internet which had last happened in 2012. Hope nothing happens this time

My PC actually did stop working today for the longest time, and it just magically started working again without me doing a thing. Could that have been it?

Your whole computer? If the gloom and doom were true, it should only affect the Internet, not your whole system. I'm thinking you suffered from some other computer issue.
