Playing DVDs on windows 10

Postby Happyland » 11 Jul 2018, 19:41

A friend upgraded to windows 10 from an earlier version of windows. How would she play DVDs? It seems like now her dvd player in her laptop no longer works in windows 10. Any ideas what should be done to enable her dvd to work?

DVD is for me is already phased out. I'm not sure about Windows 10 to work with DVDs. I have used PowerISO for virtual CD/DVD because I no longer have that slot in the computer or laptop.

It always advisable to know the pros and cons of all windows before upgrading to it, it very likely you will need to upgrade the drivers for DVD and headphones

I can't even remember the last time I used the dvd rom of my laptop, I guess everything can be downloaded online already thus lessening the use of dvds.

Or to use a USB storage to put that downloaded files. I often do that since, we don't use DVD anymore. And most of the smart TV nowadays have USB ports or feature but limited video formats accepted.

I've done my researches on the web , I found out that there are many people tried this solution and it worked with them.
The Solution
1-Open command prompt as admin (right click on windows logo you will find it)
2-Copy this line into the command prompt window
Code: Select all
reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

Image
3-Hit enter
4-Restart your device
You will find more solutions on YouTube or Microsoft support forum.
